Now for today’s blog!
This is Fruitycake. We all carry around stories, and we seem to remember them every day. We don’t even notice that we tell the same one to ourselves over and over. I don’t do this now, but I sure used to. What was my story?
I used to tell myself I would never have a home with persons because I was thrown out on the streets. I told myself that because I was scared, no one would ever catch me. I didn’t want them to… in a way. As difficult as being a stray dog was, it was the only story I told myself. The only story I knew. And the world around me always seemed to make that story true. I just kept repeating it.
Then one day, I was too tired to hear my story. Someone tried to catch me and they did. I knew it was too good to ne true, and it was. They only kept me in their car and brought me to a shelter. It was Christmas Eve.
And i started wondering if a shelter would be my last chapter of the story. I gave up. After all, a dog who had never been around persons or anyone for long and lived on the street had no other story to tell. But that was wrong of me to think that. I just needed a new story.
Do you have a story too? Maybe your story is you’re poor or not good looking. Maybe someone told you that you weren’t good at something like math when you were younger.
Maybe someone broke up with you because they told you you weren’t good enough. Maybe your story is so repetitive in your mind that you believe it.
But as much as you can turn around or stop reading this blog, you cab change your story immediately. You can start writing a new one right now.
My Girl Person is attempting to do that right now. She’s tired of struggle and lacking self confidence. She’s tired of letting her story tell her she can’t do something or not suffer. It’s time to write a new story. What about you? What would you like to change? What narrative is holding you back from being that?
For my persons could find me at that shelter, and have the life I have now, do you know what I had to do then? When they came in to meet me, I was me. Not my past story of the streets. I made it known I was their dog and they listened.
Make it known who you truly are and see what happens!

Our goal, as it always has been wherever we roam is to show the life you can give to a rescue animal and live YOUR best life at the same time. Current and future plans include:
- Continuing to share daily animals in need on our social media channels. Using our huge audience to share these urgent animals and stories helps to save lives. We worked for decades to grow our audience and to have the reach it does. We prefer to leave space open for shelters and animals in lieu of sponsors. We can reach over 40 million people a day. That’s many opportunities to find homes for these animals.
- In order to physically help animals in need, we must first sustainably renovate our home and land. We have a unique challenge due to difficult terrain, so progress has not been as quick as we would like. However, with our growing audience, we are continuing to secure monthly support in order to keep renovations going. Priority needs include a new roof, landscape clearing of property, path maintenance and expansion.
- Many outbuildings provide a unique opportunity for studio filming. This will be a major part of our volunteer work, filming educational wildlife and rescue videos and interviews with rescues around the world. The 2 Traveling Dogs channels will provide exposure to rescue and sanctuary needs, education and entertainment.
- Planned events for rescue groups in this area of Italy at our property for adoption opportunities and also to hold monthly hikes for fosters and shelter dogs. Having fenced in areas for enrichment and housing fosters as needed.
- Providing space for wildlife conservation needed in the area while educating worldwide on specific needs on making environmental differences.
- Having space available for vets that need an area for wildlife protection and rehabilitation.
- Planting crops for animal rescues to use for food sources while educating on animal nutrition.
- Providing a place for rescue organizations and individuals to pick up needed supplies and donations.
- Planned travels to other areas of the world to visit in person rescues and shelters including fundraising efforts.
It is our goal to not only help animals in need but to help and encourage people as well. People are who help the animals and education is needed worldwide as a first line of defense for all creatures.
