The Last Florida Dog Blog

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  And this is the last time I will be writing the dog blog for the next year from this Florida place.  It’s hard to believe, isn’t it? Monday starts our Adventure Of A Lifetime…and we are pretty much not ready at all! Bahaha! Still got a lot of packing.  A lot of goodbyes.  A lot of pancake eating to gain strength.  I am tired just watching the persons do all this work. So while they are packing the RV, let me share with you my reflections on what I will miss.

First of all, Sheriff Brickle and I are going to miss pawtrolling the waterways and canals here in Hudson, Florida.  We have had some of the best times of our life outside in the sunshiney. Did we do anything exciting?  No.  But special.  Because the time we have had with the dolphins, the manatees, the fish and the crazy beach persons here has been priceless.  Kind of like good pancakes and good syrup combined.

Next, I am going to miss our big house in Lutz, Florida.  We had it filled with a lot of stuff.  But we sold the house…we sold the stuff…and found treasures unfold in the simple way of life.

I will miss the orange grove and the gopher turtles and Gandma and Gandpa.  Wow, do I miss Granny Person who is no longer here.  And Cuddles.

And Leroy (not Brown). I won’t miss his barking though.

Isn’t it funny how everyday life is what memories are truly made of? How I miss those visits with family.  And the peanuts Granny Person gave us.  And stealing fried chicken off her counter. I don’t need the lecture, I totally know pancakes are better for you!

I think most of all, I am going to miss this Florida place because of the people we leave behind.  But Girl Person says that in a year after our adventure, we will see where the roads lead us.  So until then, I am going to say…as we pull into our beach trailer driveway for the last time…thank you Florida.  Thank you to this Florida place for the memories.

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle.  If you are counting down to our Adventure Of A Lifetime, you will be happy to know that we have four more days until we leave on Monday, May 2nd…time still to be determined.  Are you excited? We are tired and nervous, but excited too.  And Digby is a little bit scared, but don’t tell him I told you that.

It’s funny, sometimes when a chapter of your life is nearing its end, you start to remember all the beautiful things about it.  The sad things seem to pale in comparison and you seem to appreciate even the little things you may not have noticed before.  That is how we are feeling right now.

Our time in Florida has not been perfect.  When we moved back in 2012 from California, we tried our hardest to find a way to go back.  It has taken us four years to regroup, to sell our lifelong home and to actually make decisions that were the hardest…yet easiest of our life.  We thought that happiness was only guaranteed if we were back in California. But after coming to our Country Cousin Person’s beach home and allowing ourselves to step back and think, only then did we see what we had to do.  And thus began our plans for the Adventure Of A Lifetime.  And now? It’s here.  Where will we end up after this year? We have no idea.  Back in Florida? Perhaps.  California? Maybe.  But for once in our lives, we are going to keep an open mind and see where these roads lead us! Thank you for joining us.

Enough about that.  I felt I had to explain what in the world we are doing to our new fans.  But now, let me tell you a little about what I will miss. It is Digby’s turn tomorrow.

I will miss family.  Even Leroy.

I will miss the dog beach.  Oh, how many times I drank its waters and threw up in the car.

Image-2  I will miss the view.  The dolphins playing.  The smell of the ocean.  The fish that visited us everyday.  Chasing the sea ducks and being a beach dog.

Have you ever missed something or someone before you even leave?  That is how we are feeling right now.  Trying to take it all in, trying to remember the smells, how we felt here, how much it helped us.  We can’t wait for our adventure to start, but we will never forget this place.  And maybe, who knows? We might even be back.

I have to go and pack my cookies.  I did not say I would miss them because you better know I packed quite a few!

Have a great day everyone!

Less Than A Week Away!

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle and I have news.  Our trip…our Adventure Of A Lifetime is coming up fast.  May 2nd is sneaking up on us like when Deputy Digby pees on my head accidentally.  And we are already tired!  Can someone please, please take care of packing my peanut butter cookies and Digby’s pancakes? This is exhausting.

As you know, we had our first ride in the RV, AKA the Big Blue Treat Wagon, when we rode to the NBC studios in Tampa, Florida to film our segment for Daytime NBC!  The show is on today at 10 a.m., but don’t worry, if you can’t watch it or can’t find it on your TV, we will share on our Facebook page tonight! Don’t despair.  It’s not like you lost a cookie or something.  Speaking of which, I think Digby stole one of mine.

When you get on TV sometimes, and I am a star now so I know this, sometimes you forget to say stuff.  Girl Person is being all hard on herself because she forgot to mention that when we are visiting the rescues in all 48 states, we will be delivering free treats to them.  But Boy Person said that is not important and that what is important is that we are trying to make a difference.  He also said that it was important that Digby did not go to the bathroom on air like Girl Person thought he was about to do.  Yes, I would say that was important.  Digby!

Anyway, we want to thank all of you for your kind words and emails and also messages.  Please bear with us this week as we are packing and getting ready to go.  It may take us a little longer than usual to respond.  We appreciate your patience! It’s not like I am baking cookies over here or something.

As our time here in this Florida place is drawing to a close, we will be devoting the next two days on the blog to highlight what we love here.  And we will give you an inside glimpse on what we left behind to go on this trip.  It’s not easy for us to do.  But we hope that this coming year, starting on May 2nd will make a difference.  And it will with your support!

May 2nd…48 states, 48 rescues in one year!  Let’s do this!

The Stand Off

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. First things first on my order of business.  Thank you to everyone for your encouragement yesterday as we had our first television taping in Tampa, Florida on Daytime NBC!  We were actually pretty nervous.  Well, the persons were to be honest, and a Sheriff is always honest.

We also had our first ride in the RV and Boy Person did magnificent.  Excellent job.  Excellent work.  Deputy Digby Pancake and I were not too thrilled with all the loud noises, and it took a bit of adjustment to get used to.  Who puts their house on wheels and drives it around?  Girl Person had a bit of seasickness come over her which was weird because we were not in a boat!  I guess it will take us a few weeks once we are on the road to be ok with all of this.  And we are ok with that.

But anyway, back to our TV taping.  Did you know what when you are a star on TV that you do a lot of waiting? And more waiting? And more waiting?  We waited for a long time, but we had fun with it and peed on everything we could outside of the TV studio.  We drove our seasick houseboat on wheels to the studio so it could be on TV too.  We were out there a bit long waiting on the host persons to come outside and interview us.  They put microphones on the persons but they didn’t have enough for me and Deputy Digby, so I was already irritated with that fact.  Then, as I was trying to get over the lack of a mic, guess who pulled up?  A security guard.  A security guard who was not the police I should add.  And I will add it.  He was messing with the wrong dog.

He told Boy Person that we shouldn’t be parked outside the studio, that it was wrong and he was going to call the police.  Hello?  I may not have a microphone.  I may not have my handcuffs on me at this moment, but there is a Sheriff in this town. And it’s me.

Girl Person walked me over to the security guard person with a mustache not even half the growth of mine and told him that he could go secure somebody else.  That this situation was under control.  Right about that time, three sales person dudes walked by in suits and smiles and I just got irritated at all this stuff and the lack of coldness in my water bottles and I growled at everyone.  Everyone! What does a Sheriff have to do around here to get a little respect? It was a stand off.  And I arrested everyone.

Right about that time, the TV taping finally started in the RV.  We will show it to you when it airs tomorrow.  But let’s just say, by the time all these people came in our RV to talk about our trip, Digby and I were done.  He tried to pull away from the camera and was trying to run away from the camera monster and I was having none of it.  So we will see how it all turns out!

Thanks everyone! Have a great day and do not get arrested.

Lights, Camera, Action!

This is Deputy Digby Pancake and today is a really big day for us! It’s going to be Sheriff Brickle and I’s debut on that big television thing!  Well, it doesn’t air until Wednesday Girl Person says, but we tape today.  And I am so nervous I am drooling.  Do you think that there will be pancakes there? Just wondering, just wondering.

Girl Person says that we are taking our big RV thing thru downtown Tampa and will go to the NBC studios to talk to Jerry Penacoli and Cyndi Edwards on the show Daytime.  Do you think that they know who we are? How many pawtographs am I going to have to sign after this?  How many pancakes will I be paid in? Syrup or no syrup? Just wondering.

Why are we going on this show again? I forgot cause I was thinking about pancakes.  Well, we are going to talk about our Adventure Of A Lifetime.  We leave NEXT week!!!! Can you believe this?!  We are scared, scared, scared.  Tired and scared.  Excited and scared. Scared.  Even the Sheriff has a bit of a nervous tummy.  Packing and ruckus seems to do that to him.  And he can’t sleep it off like I can. He is just too serious.

But today, it will be a very long day.  We have to leave our house 3 hours ahead because Boy Person is nervous about driving in traffic and thru the city.  I am nervous too now!  Girl Person says that she is going to pack that RV full of champagne and she better get no lecture from Boy Person.  I highly recommend that Boy Person.  Highly.

So, send good thoughts our way today! And before you ask, yes, we will be posting the appearance on Wednesday evening for all of our fans in case you can’t see it in your area.  It will air on Wednesday, April 27th at 10 a.m. Check for listings in your area at

Have a great day everyone! We will post some fun stuff along the way today on our Facebook page! Don’t miss it!

Drawing To A Close

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  As you probably know, we have just a little over a week to appreciate this Florida place before we take off on our Adventure Of A Lifetime.  The days are drawing to a close. The sunsets will soon be a memory for us.  And we are a bit melancholy. I don’t know what that word means bur Sheriff Brickle told me to use it or I was arrested.  If a word doesn’t rhyme with pancakes, I generally don’t know how to spell it.

You can probably see that our Cousin Leroy (not Brown) has been visiting with us a lot.  Yes, he is annoying.  Yes, he barks a lot.  Yes, he has a bad attitude sometimes.  But we all came from that shelter jail, and we are family.  We will even miss Leroy.  And I think he will miss our days and sunsets here too.  Here comes that word again. Melancholy.

Sometimes it’s true that you don’t know what you got till it’s gone.  Well, we know what we got.  Our Country Cousin Person was kind to her soul in letting us stay here all these months.  Our time here allowed us to relax and to think about what we wanted to do for the next year and regroup.  So many things fell into place for us to go on our Adventure Of A Lifetime.  48 states, 48 rescues, here we come! May 2nd is coming so very fast.

Monday, we will be taping a TV segment and we will be sharing it with you next Wednesday.  Until then, we are going to enjoy this weekend, each and every ounce of it.  If the sea could tell stories, it would tell of a family made up of a Boy Person, a Girl Person and 2 Traveling Dogs who found their happiness on its waters.  And we thank it. (I also thank pancakes).

Have a great weekend everyone!

Freak Out And Freaking Out

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle.  Today has been a good day so far. We got to go hiking again with Girl Person’s best human friend and it was nice. Girl Person’s friend doesn’t go hiking very often, can you imagine that? Her and Girl Person are kind of opposites, like me and Digby, but somehow they make it work.  Like me and Digby.

You all know I am a lady’s man, so I thought since this pretty person was hiking with us, I would show her the ropes, how handsome I could be and that hiking was awesome.  Plus, shhh…I am gonna tell on Girl Person. She brought a bottle of champagne in her backpack.  She told us not to tell, that since we are moving in about a week and a half, she needed to have some fun.  You better know I am arresting her.

So since her and the pretty person kept talking, blah, blah and drinking champagne, I thought why not? I am gonna do my freak out.  I don’t bring my freak out in the open often, but this totally called for it.  I jumped on Digby, he bit my ears and we both freaked out trying to play, trying to drag the persons in the alligator water and having a great time.  That was obvious.

The pretty person doesn’t have dogs.  Did I mention that? She didn’t know what to do because I guess the cats she has don’t go on hikes, and so she jumped off the trail in horror.  Girl Person told her that we were just playing, loudly at that, and to drink more champagne, which I also forgot to mention they were drinking straight out of the bottle.  Arrested again.

After hiking, Boy Person came to pick us up and well, I decided that since he was giving Girl Person a lecture on champagne hiking, I would arrest him too and not get in the car.  Then I wouldn’t get out of the driver’s seat.  This was too much fun freaking out, I haven’t done it in so long.  Must do it more often.

You see, the persons are stressing out with moving and packing and our trip and Girl Person needed a break.  I needed to freak out.  Boy Person? Guess he just needed to lecture someone. 9 a.m is too early for champagne? Boy Person?  Don’t freak out, but you.  Are.  Arrested.

-Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle

This is Deputy Digby Pancake and you already know that Sheriff Brickle and I uphold the law around here.

So this morning, when we were hiking, we were surprised at a person’s reaction to us on the trail.  Whenever persons are on the same trail as us, or even dogs, we always give them the right of way.  We get off the trail and let them pass by.  But this morning, this scared person had a very different reaction.  She got way off the trail too and would not move. Sheriff Brickle was perplexed and I was too.

Girl Person noticed her hesitation and told her that Brickle and I did not bite.  She told the scared person that she could go by.  The scared person told Girl Person that she used to love dogs, but she had reached down to pet one on a trail one time and the dog bit her arm so bad that she had to go to the hospital.  I was shocked!  Why would this happen?

Girl Person said she definitely understood that she would be scared, and that we would walk way around her.  I found it a shame she didn’t want to gaze upon our handsome, but I guess if a pancake bit me, I would be scared of it too, but truth be told, I would still eat it.

Sheriff Brickle says this has nothing to do with nothing and that it should teach us all respect.  You never know why someone feels the way they do.  It is our duty as dogs and persons to give other things space and be respectful.  Girl Person always asks if we can say hello to other dogs or people, but sometimes she forgets.  This will make us remember.  Be respectful out there or you know what will happen.  Sheriff Brickle says that if not, you.  Are.  Arrested.

Fan Suggestions Needed For Georgia!

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle.  It’s time for our fans to spring into action on our Adventure Of A Lifetime! Since our first stop is near the Savannah, Georgia area, most specifically Jekyll Island, it’s time that we need YOUR help.  And if you don’t help, well…YOU. Are.  Arrested.

We leave May 2nd so it’s time that we pick the second animal rescue we will be visiting.  Yes, we already have one picked for Florida before we leave…stay tuned.  But back to my point.  We need your first suggestion for Georgia! What rescue organization do you recommend?  As well, what should be on our agenda for Georgia hiking areas, dog parks, and dog friendly establishments?  We are calling on you, our fans for your help.  Because you are going on this trip with us too! Don’t forget!

Even if you don’t live in Georgia, do some work for me today.  Search on your computer thing and make some suggestions. Don’t be lazy or you will be arrested for that as well.  I am tired of all this packing and it is making me a bit testy.

Girl Person is going to be doing a recipe every week too for our fans on that you can make for your dog for each state with local ingredients and flavor.  So…give us your suggestions on that.  Yes, I know, peach pancakes are the most logical choice as well as cookies, but let’s use some imagination here or you will be arrested.  Don’t make me do it.

This trip is really happening and we are so happy to be including you on the journey!  Get your thinking caps on…ready…set…go!

Get your official t-shirt for our trip! We would love to see you in it when we visit your state!

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle.  And this weekend was more work, work, work for the persons.  Packing, cleaning, packing, get rid of junk, packing, loading the RV house thing.  It was enough to make my head spin…almost as bad as when I think about peanut butter cookies.

As we were on one of our breaks and walking thru the neighborhood, we came upon Bob.  Bob the ex-Sheriff down the street.  That’s because he retired when he knew I was in town.  Then there’s another Bob a few houses down who never wears shoes and stands in his driveway.  Then there’s another Bob on another street with a golf cart who rides around seeing what’s wrong then reporting them although he is not a Sheriff and I have him on my list this week to arrest.  Question is…is everyone named Bob?

Girl Person says that since me and Digby like to talk to people and hang out and visit, that we are really going to like this trip and all the Bobs we get to meet.  She says no, not everyone is named Bob, but if we want to call them that it’s all good.  She says no one is a stranger, just friends we haven’t met yet.  I agree.  Just don’t be the Bob on the golf cart. Be the Bob with peanut butter cookies.  Or you. Are. Arrested.
