This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. It’s been a great few days at the beach. At first, I was sad about leaving the farm.
Because I really, really liked it. I missed the grass and the animals and the produce stand. But most of all, I missed how I felt there. Calm. Content. Settled.
Have you ever felt unsettled? Maybe you are like Digby and eat something you shouldn’t. Or maybe you eat too much, and then your tummy hurts. It isn’t a good feeling. You wait for it to pass. You definitely wish you would have passed up that culinary delight.
That’s a bit how I felt about leaving the farm. Unsettled. Like maybe if we would have not camped there, I wouldn’t be so sad about leaving. But Girl Person said it was a lesson to us. We may not be able to live at a farm right now, but that is no reason to settle. There is never a reason to settle. Why? We all deserve better than that. But it’s up to us to find that happy feeling again.
When we arrived at the beach, I wasn’t so sure about it. The roads were dusty. I didn’t see any animals to play with. And I definitely didn’t see a produce stand like at the farm. But the next day, when we got to the beach and the dog park, and then later explored the fort, I loved it.
I knew something in my heart. I wasn’t replacing the farm with the beach. I was replacing how I felt happy for another way to feel happy.
There is always, always something to be happy about. Even if you think that you will never find what you are looking for, maybe that is the fun of it. Yes. This is my fun face.
Exploring ways we can be happy isn’t settling. It’s changing the way we are happy. The farm isn’t better than the beach.
The beach isn’t better than the farm.
The farm and the beach are different. What sparks a happy feeling is different for each one. Isn’t that a beautiful thought? Variety is the spice of life.

One of the good parts about traveling is that you find out what does make you the happiest. And once you get that feeling somewhere, you always want to duplicate it.
But never be disappointed when a place maybe isn’t your favorite right away. Give your mind a few days to settle, clear of the last adventure before you give up. Because sometimes it takes our minds time to adjust. Don’t be hard on yourself when you face changes and think you will never be happy again. You will be. It just simply won’t be in the same way, and that’s ok, because you will be different too.
If settling has become routine to you, find a way to change that. You may be somewhere or some place different in your life than you thought you would be. But what sparks your happy there? We can’t compare ourselves now to us in the past. Be your happiest now where you can be. And don’t settle for less.
