This is Deputy Digby Pancake. When you camp all of the time like us and live in a house on wheels, well, it’s a rare thing to have company come over. Especially for dinner. I’m not known for having the best manners.
I thought it was a good idea. But Sheriff Brickle did not. Anything that interrupts his change of routine does not go over very well.
And because we are staying on the beach, which is one of his favorite things, it definitely was going to affect his beach time.

But Girl Person explained to us that having people over is showing hospitality. And hospitality is important. She said when you go out of your way to make others feel welcome and loved, it helps you to be better.
But showing hospitality is not always easy. For one thing, if you battle the Depression Monster like Girl Person, you mag second guess you can make such an effort. You may not like the way you look or feel. You may be embarrassed about where you live. Yes. We’ve all felt like that.
But what do you remember most when you’ve had the best time? It was the way you felt. And if somehow we can put ourselves second for a few hours and have that as our goal, maybe they will do the same too. And it may keep going. And we may all end up coming over for dinner one day!
Girl Person decided to take us to the beach early.
She did her work early. Boy Person got the grill ready. And the persons made vegan sausages and sweet broccoli salad, vegan donuts and cookies!! I won’t mention what they drank though. Or they. Are. Arrested.
It’s hard to not be self conscious unless you are Sheriff Brickle and you have that beach body.

So embrace what you can give, no matter where you live. Even if it’s a cup of coffee. Serve it with love. And pass it on.
