This is Fruitycake The Raccoon. I hope you will be patient with me, because I am just learning. About everything. Brickle told me that it is our job to talk to all of our friends every day right here. And well, I’m just learning what a friend is. What’s your name, friend?
I smiled for the first time in my life yesterday. It came on quite suddenly.
I had a full belly. The Sunshiney was out…that’s what Brickle calls it. And I realized that there was a whole world out there that was good. And comfortable. I learned that I have a bark. And there are many things to bark at.
I also learned that my name was not “This Dog” like they called me at the shelter jail.
I learned I had a new name. Boy Person picked it out. And he even made me a song.
Do you know why you have your name? Brickle told me everyone has a name. And I think that’s so nice.
I found out there is something called fruitcake made up of many, many things. And many, many colors. And speckles. And it is sweet. Like me. I have many colors. I’m many kinds of dogs.
And raccoon? Girl Person told me that there is an animal called a raccoon. And that animal likes trash. And when they met me at the shelter jail, I tried to get in the trash can. I sure did.
I hope you like my name and I hope you like me. I’m ready to start a new life. I’m ready. But I also have to say that without Digby Pancake I would still be at the shelter with 600 other dogs. And I thank him. I’ll thank him for the rest of my life. This is his home. His persons. His friends too. And I’ll talk about him as I learn more about him. Every day.
I’m still resting from my surgery I had a few days ago. I’m still trying to get used to all of this. I’ve already found the couch though.
I don’t know what an RV is. I just know it’s home. I don’t know what camping is. Or traveling. Or what a treat is. I don’t know how to sit or speak. But guess what? I already know how to write a dog blog. And. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Fruitycake The Raccoon.

You have a seasoned veteran by your side to show you the ropes. He’s been traveling for quite a while now, so he really knows what it’s all about. You will find so many new things in your new life. New sights, sounds, and, so very important for you (since you’re a mixture of many kinds of dogs), new smells on the ground, in the air, and everywhere you go. Just don’t actually get into the trash. It isn’t good for you. Girl Person will feed you well and you’ll have nutritious foods specially formulated to meet your nutritional needs. Avoid cat food; it’s not good for dogs. Avoid old stinky left-overs carelessly left behind on the campground; it’s not good for you. Learn about walking on a leash, shopping in the Camping World store and searching for dog toys and good treats. Most of all, learn about how to be Brickle’s new brother, and he will teach you about how to Live Like Digby. We don’t want you to take Digby’s place; we want you to learn exactly what YOUR place is. It’s all new to you, but I saw that smile! You’ll be fine, Fruitycake. Even if I do think that’s a weird name. Well, maybe weird is the wrong word. It’s unique. That’s to remind us and you that YOU are unique. Not just “this dog” or “that dog” but THE one and only Fruitycake the Raccoon, who’s actually a unique and special dog.

As I read your blog today Fruitycake Raccoon the tears are slowly rolling down my cheeks. Tears of happiness for your new life and journey and also tears of sadness missing Digby. He is no longer in this world however we still have 💘 in our hearts for him.
