This is Fruitycake The Raccoon. I take a lot of walks. Sure. I was used to walking around when I was a stray. But I walked to find food and somewhere to rest. I didn’t walk just for the sake of walking.
And Girl Person seems to think that it’s a good idea. Can’t say as I understand fully yet. All I do know is that we usually walk somewhere fun. There is usually something to see. And Brickle and I chat a lot. Well, he likes to tell me what we are seeing. I am starting to think that he has seen it all.
But on one of my walks during the day, it’s just me and Girl Person. She tells me that I have more energy than Brickle and need to walk a little further.
Walk, walk, walk. And now, you can add talk, talk, talk to our walk. Girl Person says she doesn’t care that I don’t talk back. She says it’s ok to just listen sometimes. And yesterday, she told me something very simple. Very to the point. Very exciting. Do you know what she said?
Girl Person told me that I was going to be her friend forever. She said forever. She didn’t tell me our friendship would end tomorrow. Or in a year. Or in ten years. She said forever. She said I never had to worry. Ever again.
Now, I really was thinking that I was their dog. Their Fruitycake. But friend? Wow. That was something else entirely. Girl Person knew what I was thinking and she said that she wouldn’t just call me her dog. She said that she doesn’t own me. She said I am my own person. She said when you’re someone’s friend, that is the most important thing you can be.
I do not know what every day has in store for me. I’m not sure what a home is or what travel is or all of the definitions persons put on everything. I just want to live life happy. I want to be a forever friend. Now I AM a forever friend. Is there a forever friend waiting for you at a shelter or a rescue? If you can open your heart to friendship again, even if you lost your best friend, can you be a friend again?
Maybe it’s not the right time for you. That’s ok! Forever friends are forever. And you can still remember them. Forever.
Take a walk with yourself and talk to your heart. The answer is there.
