Screaming In The Woods

This is Fruitycake. If there is one thing I’m good at besides being the cutest, it’s being the most timid. I cannot stand loud noises or sudden movements. I’ve tried to work on it over the years, but my reaction under any scary circumstances is to get the heck out of there.

So when we were walking up the path last night, and there was the first scream…yes, I said first, I was not happy about it. It was Girl Person with a mouth full of blackberries from the trail that promptly got spit all over me…while she was screaming. You see, she was hungry. And the wild blackberries are all over now. She was popping them into her mouth like pop rocks.

Except they weren’t pop rocks. They were blackberries and beetles.

When you’re picking blackberries, lesson you have learned here? Look at them before putting them in your mouth. Now, I will tell you they all lived to see another blackberry. But the taste left in her mouth and the trauma was enough to hear that screaming all the way to the USA.

But that wasn’t the only thing lurking in the woods. Because as we got closer to home, with blackberries all over us, well, we heard ear piercing screams. Here. There. Everywhere. It was enough to curdle your milk.

We were so scared that someone was trapped by a wild pig or had fallen off the trail. And we were covered in blackberries that made us look like we were the injured ones.

We picked up our pace to get home. And that’s when Boy Person was standing there wondering if it was us screaming. He was on the way down the trail. And it stopped. The screaming stopped. Our hearts had about stopped too. Who was it? We found out.

The culprit of the screaming who was scared of Girl Person screaming? A fox. Fox. Yes. I said a fox.

In this Italy place, the foxes like to scream. And although they are beautiful, cats need to stay away. Also a Fruitycake like me will too. It wasn’t enough to have wild pigs in the woods.

Life can be funny. One minute you have beetles in your mouth and the next minute, a fox screams. Find the humor in the little moments that may scare you at first. Don’t run from life…just be a little more careful some days…
