This is Fruitycake. Some days have a bit of a slow start around here. In the winter time, which seemed to go on forever, I didn’t want to get out of bed.
But now? It stays light outside until after nine at night and the sun rises early too! The birds start chirping and the crows start yelling.
You know who also woke up early today? The bugs that make so much noise you can’t even hear the waterfall. In fact, they were so loud last summer that we didn’t even know where our giant waterfall was. That’s loud.
And today, they woke up screaming. Yelling. Making their point clear that they have arrived and they mean business. The cicadas.
Have you ever known someone like that? They think that they have to tell their point loudly or rudely to be heard. They think that they are more important and more valuable than others. They talk over others, they don’t listen, and they’re the center of attention. Yeah, I’ve known persons like that. And I don’t let it affect me. You don’t have to either.
When there is bad news, do you find yourself turning the volume up?
When you have negative thoughts, do you turn up the volume in your head? Why? I don’t want you to undervalue yourself. For every negative emotion, there is a reason. Ask yourself how much volume do I want to give to this? Can I give myself permission to keep moving past the negative? Can I do better and be better to others by not allowing the volume to be so loud?
It’s ok to protect your peace. Life is meant to be wonderful and fulfilling and it’s meant to teach us kindness and see how we can help others.
Don’t scream for weeks like the cicadas. Make today the day you give yourself permission to finally turn down that volume!

Peanut Butter Brickle’s life here on this earth was meaningful and precious. He spent so much of his life with us at shelters and rescues, he and Digby were the faces of animal rescue for over a decade. And we will and promise to him and to you that we will continue his legacy by using his home and this property in all ways we can to make a difference.
We plan a special, happy, funny, memorial video on July 29th. More ways to be involved are to be announced this week.
Our first goal for this special day? If you have followed us or read this blog, do you remember how we promised Brickle a picnic table when we found a home? All campgrounds had a picnic table. And on our travels, Brickle knew we were at our home spot when he got his picnic table. We want to make his dream come true and honor him this year with a picnic table which will be shared with ones visiting this oasis. And which will be here at his spot, his home. Simply put, we cannot do our best for rescues and our mission without getting the basics here and the property and home ready to be used. Brickle continues to take care of us, and hopefully in turn, make a difference in your life too.
