Changing Tides

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. Oh, the weather. One day it’s hot outside. The next day it’s cold. The next day after that it’s windy.

Fruitycake is definitely a go with the flow kinda guy. Unless water flows into the picture. Then, it’s everyone save themselves. Because no matter what you say to him, he will not believe that a puddle of water is not molten lava.

So imagine my feelings yesterday when we took our normal morning hike at this campground. It wasn’t raining outside yet. So we started off on the trail to the boardwalks. Except that we quickly noticed it was wet. Very wet. The tides had changed. The water had risen.

And Fruity was not having it.

Sometimes, you hope for the best. And as Girl Person picked up Fruity to help him thru, I trudged thru like the champion I am.

And behind us was another dog and his person who also were caught in these tides. We let them go ahead of us. And we saw that the water was getting deeper. And deeper. We had two choices. Keep going. Hoping things would change ahead. Or we could turn around. But that meant we had to walk thru the water we already had again. What to do? What would you do?

Although there was no wrong answer, I guess, the right answer for us was to turn around. Especially when we saw a snake.

And as we started back, the water was even deeper. It was harder to get thru this time. But as we neared the end of the trail, the other hiker and her dog let us know we had made a good decision. It was almost impassable.

In life, there is nothing wrong with turning around. Sometimes our pride wants us to keep going. To not admit we shouldn’t or can’t do something. But the right decision for one is the wrong decision for another. Make sure that what you decide when faced with obstacles is what you feel comfortable with. Not someone else.

The changing of the tides in life keep us on our paws. Or if you are Fruity, you get carried.

Meet your obstacles with resolve. And when something doesn’t feel right, turn around.

Heed the warnings of the weather guys. “Turn around; don’t drown.” They’re telling people not to drive through floodwaters because you never know when they may have washed out the roadbed. Same could happen on the hiking trail. Nicole isn’t going to strike where you are as a hurricane, but it will impact the weather there for several days. Hiking near the beach probably won’t be a good idea. Or, for Fruitycake especially, even a “go.” Stay safe.
