This is Deputy Digby Pancake. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know when I’m happy and when I’m not, which is hardly ever. I don’t even know what a rocket scientist is. But you don’t have to be one to be happy or know happy!
All you have to do is listen. And if you hear three snorts? I. Am. Really. Happy.
And when we spent the day at Harper’s Ferry National Historic Park in that West Virginia place, I was snorting the three snort tune all day long.
When a place has history, hiking trails and a town you can walk thru? Wow. Just wow.
Snort. Snort. Snort. Happy. Happy. Happy.
The persons were worried a little bit that the hike into town would be too long. But it was all downhill, so we decided to try it.
And Boy Person promised to run back up and get the car so I didn’t have to walk all the way back. And after the double scoop I ate of ice cream that Brickle wouldn’t eat? I appreciated that.
The great thing about new places for me and Brickle is that we feel pretty fortunate sometimes.
We get to go where people are and they talk to us and we get to see stores and parks and things going on. We do wish we could go inside every place like you, but I hear that you can’t use the bathroom inside stores. They call that inappropriate.
But at Harpers Ferry, we could go in some stores. Quickly. And we got to do three things which caused the three snorts snort. We. were. So. Happy.
Do you remember what happy feels like? Sounds like?
We hiked into town over creeks and along the river. We got to be outside and enjoy nature! Snort.
We got to do some learning. Snort.
We got to eat some good food. Oh, the simple pleasures. Although Brickle wouldn’t eat his ice cream. Did I mention I ate his?
You see, happiness isn’t dependent on any of these three things. But put them all together, and you feel alive. You can’t help but snort. Because if we ever stop being amongst nature, if we ever stop learning and when we stop enjoying simple pleasures, something is wrong. And we have to stop whatever we are doing and find what makes us snort three times. What makes you snort? What makes you feel alive?
Harpers Ferry surely made us feel alive, important. Happy.
And Harper’s Ferry made us appreciate how much more there is to see and learn about.
The wonderful part is that happy can be part of every day if we find our snorts. So are you with me? I wanna hear it!
Our last full day in Virginia is today. We leave on Tuesday afternoon. Look for clues and updates on our next destination on our Facebook page!
