The Cousins

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. Some have big families.

And some have small families.

A family is a family. And I’m quite sure that every family is different.

And sometimes, families even change. Some are born. Some pass away. Some don’t want to stay. And you let them go.

That’s been a great thing about traveling. We move so much that others become families to us. Even for a short while. I used to think that wasn’t possible. But I’m finding out that sometimes, family doesn’t mean forever. Family can fill a space in your heart, even if it’s only temporary. Like here at the horse farm.

Here at the farm, there are two horses named Gypsy and Skipper.

And there are two dogs named Baby and Zoey. They won’t stop chasing squirrels, so it’s been hard to get a picture.

And the horse farm lady said that before we checked in on Friday, she told all the animals that their cousins were coming. Us. Me and Fruitycake.

She told them that so that they would know we were meant to be here. And that we would get along. Like family. Well. Not all families.

So that was quite a welcome from our cousins. Now, I don’t know exactly how long we will be here. We are waiting on some information about that Italy place and work.

But I do know that they are my family. Because they are filling voids in our hearts.

That’s what good families do. They don’t make holes in your heart. They fill the holes.

It’s easy to not get attached to others and to just keep to ourselves. We may not want to get hurt. We may play it safe. But take it from me. A dog who had lots of families in lots of places will always have a family to go to. And I’ll always be someone’s family too. Wherever I am. I’m even part of yours.

The cousins here are a happy bunch. We may not have known each other long. But I have a feeling it’s going to be a fun week with the family.
