The Hard Ones

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. In this Florida place, there are so many shells on the beach.

Girl Person loves to look for her favorites. And after making sure and double sure and triple sure that there is nothing living in the shells, she adds them to her collection.

At this particular beach, she looks for something called pink barnacles. They are very pretty and different.

But I’m sure that many persons look over them in favor of more prized shells. That’s ok. We all like different things.

The barnacles are very hard. And they reminded me of how my attitude was about this time last year. Oh, what a difference a year can make.

Last year I was missing my brother Digby so bad that I never thought I wanted to have any more brothers or any more friends. It had been too hard to go thru it. And I couldn’t imagine having to go thru that pain again.

But now, look where I am. In a happy place. I’m feeling younger. And yes. Softer. I have definitely grown softer.

We are fortunate to be able to change and to be able to love again when we lose someone. When the barnacles break free from what they hold on to, they get lost at sea.

They wash up on the shore and they may be broken. Or even harder with age. If we can look at the opportunities we have to love and love more than one individual in different ways and different times, we won’t take that for granted.

The hard ones never get to experience that feeling again if they hold on to the pain of the past. Love now. I will tell you…it’s worth it.

Enjoy the seashells, they are beautiful things. So glad you have the opportunity to have a new friend and brother Fruitycake. Digby will always be your brother and one day all of you will be reunited in heaven…..But now remember his memory by teaching Fruitycake all the good things that you did with Digby and then some new things…enjoy the beach ⛱️ 😀 and your weekend. 🙂❤🐕‍🦺🐾
