This is Peanut Butter Brickle. Oh, the things you can see when you aren’t so concentrated on yourself. It’s been so long since I haven’t felt sorry for myself. It sure is easy to do that when we go thru hard times. But when is it time to find a way out of that cycle? It’s not as easy as changing the cycle on a washing machine. Especially not at camp.

Everywhere I look and everywhere I go, I am reminded of Digby. The good times and the really good times.

But good isn’t always good when you’re feeling sorry for yourself. I know Digby isn’t in pain and I should appreciate that. But it’s still really hard. I don’t think we were meant to lose the ones we love. I just don’t. How can someone be in your life, and then they are gone?

Girl Person said that as long as we are trying not to feel sorry for ourselves, we need to really look at what is in front of us and not see anything but that. If we see a pretty mushroom, appreciate the mushroom. Don’t make it about us.

If we see a unique tree, appreciate the unique tree. Don’t make it about us.

If we see and we hear the River in the morning, love that river. Don’t make it about us.

It’s hard to not be sad right now. But it is not fair to all of the beautiful things around us trying to cheer us up. Everywhere I look, everywhere I go, Digby will be there. But the wonderful other things are sure there too. I won’t ignore them. I won’t make everything about my sadness. Because if I do, why am I traveling? Why am I trying to live?

Some don’t get to see what you will see today. Make those things your focus.

And concentrate on what’s good. You have a privilege. Only you can see exactly the way you see. Only you interpret the world how you do. Make it count.
