Not Every Lake Aspires To Be An Ocean

This is Digby Pancake. If you called me an overachiever, you wouldn’t be wrong. In many ways, what I choose to do is what I do. In a big way. Not a halfhearted way. If I’m hungry, I’m really hungry.

If I’m tired, I’m so tired I nap extra hard. If I howl, I howl at the top of my lungs. Why do anything if your soul isn’t into it?

Peanut Butter Brickle is an overachiever too. But he wants different things. If he’s irritable, he is really irritable. If he is feeling fine, his handsome shines.

And if Brickle had a choice, he would speak to the current state of world affairs, how we could help the environment and how we might send a dog to Jupiter one day.

Yes. We have different goals. And although one may think that Brickle’s goals are more lofty, that doesn’t mean that my goals are any less important.

Some lakes may want to be an ocean. They see how big oceans are and how others respect it.

But some lakes may like being lakes.

Not every lake aspires to an ocean. Just like every individual is different, and our aspirations are different, we have to respect what others want to be. Or not to be.

It’s ok to encourage others. But it’s not ok to tell them what they should be doing or not doing . It’s not ok to tell someone else what kind of family they want, if their job is important or not or if they should be more. More for whom? More…why? What is even the definition of more? It’s not up to you to decide.

It’s up to us to decide what we want to be. Never let anyone tell you that you are not enough if you choose different goals or a different life path. Not every lake aspires to be an ocean. But make your current take you where you want to go.
