This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. Do you wake up each day and look out the window to see what the weather is like outside? Deputy Digby Pancake does. It is the first thing on his agenda.
If it’s raining, he goes back to sleep. If it’s sunshiney, he tries to get up a little faster. After he stretches. Yawns. Stretches some more. Changes positions. And gets one paw out of bed slowly and not so surely.
For me, I want to go outside in the morning no matter what is happening out there. After I look at myself in the mirror.
I don’t pay attention to the weather forecast. But persons sure seem to. And they also think they know it all, can predict it all and keep one step ahead of the weather game.
The funny thing is, no matter how many times that they get the weather wrong, they still trust in their abilities anyways. It’s like trusting that the Deputy won’t steal that plate of pancakes off the counter. You know what’s gonna happen.
Yesterday, the persons had planned for the worst. Weather reports indicated we were going to get hit with a terrible storm. All night. All day and night again. They pushed the slideouts in. They covered the bikes. They put away our outside beds and chair. You would have thought a hurricane was surely on the way in this Florida place.
Even though it rained a little, when we woke up, they were more than surprised to see the sunshiney trying to come out. The sky was blue. And even though there were a few clouds, we were able to take our walk and sit outside and smell the breeze instead of being inside the Big Blue Treat Wagon all day. Yes. It was surely something to be thankful for. Unexpected sunshiney.

But as the day went on at the farm, I began to wonder. When would the rain come? How long did I have to be outside? My memory had surely been short.
Just like persons do, I had forgot that I should be thankful for the unexpected sunshiney we did have. In fact, I was already depressed about the fact that the rain would eventually come.
Are you like that in your life? Does something good happen to you and instead of being thankful, you worry about when it will end?
Not being thankful can make us selfish, in fact. Never forget to count your blessings. Especially unexpected sunshiney.
It will last longer in our hearts if we are truly thankful.
