Passing Thru

This is Deputy Digby Pancake. Another day, another dollar. Or in my case, another pancake. Or if you are a person, and have to do that work thing, another bill to pay. Who is Bill by the way, and why does he get all the money?

We had to earn our treats yesterday, so we went to see a tunnel.

The persons told us that trains go thru this tunnel. And they told us that persons didn’t build the tunnel. They said it naturally formed that way and that’s why they call it the Natural Tunnel.

The tunnel is more than 850 feet long and ten stories high!

Over many, many years, it was naturally carved!

It took a long, long time. Many years. Its older than Brickle looks and that’s a real long time. Some person named Daniel Boone is said to have been the first European to have seen it. We will learn more about him later this week and next week on our travels.

But I can only retain so much information in one day before the pancakes settle.

The tunnel is still used today by trains coming thru that carry coal. But they sure don’t stay for long. As we were looking at the tunnel, all of a sudden, we heard the train whistle and the rumble!

Sheriff Brickle and I were petrified to tell you the truth. None of us were expecting to see the train. We heard that it’s pretty rare to witness one passing thru. But here it came. And we got way out of the way as Girl Person hugged us as tight as she could. And let me tell you. It was over pretty quick.

I’m not sure if life is any different for persons. Like a train just passing thru, life and time passes in the blink of an eye.

Life can be loud and exciting like a fast train. Or it can be slow like a train with nowhere to go.

But as each day passes, there are less and less opportunities to make a moment count.

One day, we will want that train to go as slow as it can. Because we won’t want to get off.

That’s how our family feels lately. I’ve been doing real good. Brickle has been too. Every day has been an adventure with something new to see. And we may just be passing thru each town we stop at. But our train keeps going.

Our train keeps whistling. And my stomach keeps rumbling.

So if we stop in your town with the peanut butter cookies and pancakes express, be sure to say hello.

Because there is always time to say hello. No matter how fast the train is going. Don’t take your journey for granted. Days won’t be perfect. We will have have trials. We will see valleys and mountains and vistas. It’s up to us to keep going. To keep riding. To keep enjoying. Buy a ticket. Use it.
