This is Sunday. Which means it’s time for a Brickle and Digby story. We hope that you enjoy a look back with us every week as we hold our boys close in our hearts.

There we were. In West Virginia. Every time we visited West Virginia in our RV, it seemed to rain. And rain a lot! We were recuperating from a long travel day and decided that the boys really needed to rest a few hours. So we headed to a coal mine to do some filming. It was a super interesting visit, but all I could think about was getting back to Brickle and Digby.
When we got back, they really wanted to go for a walk. And truth be told, I did too. Nate needed to fix a leaking roof on the RV, so I told him I would be back in about 20 minutes. I hadn’t packed water or anything. I expected just to be gone a little while. Digby saw a trail, and off we went.

I looked at my watch 10 minutes in so I would know when to turn around. And apparently the boys knew that. They wanted a longer hike and took me down a wrong trail back. Pretty soon, I had no clue where we were and we ended up going further and further lost. I had not planned on any long hike, so I had no phone. Nothing. It was humid and warm and no water. And well, I was starting to panic about an hour in. I hadn’t even told Nate where I was going. And I stopped in the trail and looked at Brickle for help. I told him to get us out. But it seemed like he was taking me in the opposite direction. I trusted him though and realized what he was doing was taking me to other people. Unfortunately, they were as lost as I was.

But they had water. Although they only had enough for themselves, they gave it to Brickle and Digby. We talked a lot on that trail. We all pulled together to stay calm for three hours. And I’ll always remember them. I’ll always remember Brickle leading me to help.

Leading me to help. Sometimes, you may not know how to help someone else. You may not be able to solve their problems. But you can help them with a listening ear. You may help them by guiding them to who can help.
I miss Brickle and Digby every hour of my life.

But I know that their lives mattered and that they are helping me now. I seem to have found some direction in the last week with knowing what we need to do with our property. Brickle and Digby’s house is meant to be a safe place for wildlife and for future rescue pets. Our first project has begun with Brickle’s bat boxes. You can be part of the project and get your name on bat boxes here! Help us make this property into a place worthy of Brickle and Digby’s work and legacy.
