This is Deputy Digby Pancake. Some things I look forward to every day.
Yes. That all goes without saying, but I’ll say it. When every day includes all of that, and it always does, how can any day be bad?
But some days, you just know that it’s going to be extra special. That was yesterday. A special kinda day that included breakfast. It included lunch. It included dinner. And if included snacks. But it also included two persons to came to see us. We were told to not get too excited. But that Gandma and Gandpa were coming for a visit.
Now, I am not the type of guy that likes to wait. For anything. Especially not breakfast. Especially not lunch. Especially not dinner. Especially not snacks. But Girl Person said that part of the fun sometimes is anticipation. Looking forward to something about to happen. She said without anticipation, you have surprises. Which is good too.
But in this case, because it had been so long since we had seen Gandma and Gandpa, she said she wanted us to anticipate their visit for a reason. Or a few reasons.
Girl Person said when you anticipate something special, you think about why it’s special. Which makes it more sweeter. And I suppose I understood that. Like how maple syrup tastes really sweet sometimes. Because I’ve thought about it so much. So much. I remember the oozy goodness on a pancake. How it makes my tongue slap my brains out.
So when I thought about Gandma and Gandpa coming, I thought of how much me and Brickle miss them. And how we used to visit almost every day. I thought of how I maybe didn’t appreciate it then. I thought of how sometimes I wish I could visit them after dinner like I used to.
I thought about how even though families sometimes disagree, and I see that a lot, there is still love. And if they say absence makes the heart grow fonder, it can make the stomach growl louder too. I miss all the extra treats.
So I thought and I thought. Life in a house on wheels is fun. It’s exciting. It’s hard.
And when you finally stop for a little while, sometimes the feelings and memories catch up. And sometimes the persons who mean the most catch up when they drive to see you. So as we waited outside for their car to pull in the campground, the anticipation was more than we could handle. And when we saw them? It was better than I imagined.
Have you ever had someone love you? Really love you? No matter how much time or distance is between the last time you saw each other? Life moves fast. We try to keep up. But sometimes we run from what we need to feel. What’s important. Who is important. Persons need to stop and realize that tomorrow may not have anything or anyone to anticipate. Appreciate that now.
Where will we go next? We don’t know. But for this week, Gandma and Gandpa are here. And that’s where we will be. Here. I anticipate a good time.
