The Little Tree

This is Digby Pancake. How much do you care about the things that aren’t permanent in your life? How much do you care about things that you’re just passing by? How much do you care about…others?

When you move around as much as we do, it is easy to try and not get too attached. After all, we never know how long we will be there. We never know when we will say goodbye. So it is easier to not love too much.

But sometimes, you just can’t help. Ok. Every time…we just can’t help it. Every individual, whether you are an animal or a person or even a little tree we are parked next to for two weeks will find a place in our heart. And we figure that it is our responsibility to take care of it for as long as we can.

That is how we feel about the little tree in our campsite “yard”. Yep. The tree may not be big. The tree may not need our help. But a tree always needs your love. Your attention.  Your admiration. A tree is no different than us in many ways.

So every day, Girl Person waters the tree. Girl Person gives it some coffee grounds for food.

We say good morning to the tree.

We say good afternoon to the tree. We ask the tree if he knows where the good treats are around here. Ok. Only I ask that.

Do you think it is worth it to take notice of things around us that won’t be ours forever? I have news for you. That is everything. Everything around us is temporary. Because we are temporary. And if we don’t take the time to appreciate it all, and if we don’t take the time to feel our emotions and gratitude for others to save us hurt later on, what are we doing? Why are we doing that?

Do you think it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all? Oh, I do.

Because just like we look forward to our next meal when the one we are eating is over with, we should look forward to the next enjoyment in life. And never think that it’s not your responsibility to take care of others for as long as we can.

Wouldn’t we want someone to take care of us too?
