Chop Your Own Wood

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. Chopping wood for fires isn’t something our family has done very often. When we lived in that Florida place, it was warm enough!

But as we’ve traveled, the persons have learned a thing or two about campfires and how to keep them burning.

Here in this Georgia place, we had a fire last night after our friends had a lot of dead wood chopped on their property.

They had so much to do on their land that they wanted to get help to get it all done. It seemed overwhelming to them.

And Digby sure wasn’t about to volunteer.

You see, they lived in that Florida place too at one time. And it wasn’t something they thought they knew how to do…chop all that wood. They didn’t think they could do it.

But at the end of the day, when someone else did it for them, they were still left with big piles of wood. Really big piles of wood! But they were too big to make a fire with. So the persons still had to chop them into smaller pieces for the fire.

I thought about all of this chopping and how much work it took to have a fire.

Since the best time to have a fire is when it’s cold outside, I had to wonder. Why didn’t they just chop all of the wood themselves?

Seems to me that much work would keep you warm too.

So if you chopped your wood, you could get warm twice.

Persons are always doubting themselves and their abilities. But sometimes you have to just try. Not only will you get the satisfaction from working hard, but you prove to yourself that you can do it.

Don’t expect that others will always be able to chop your wood. Find out how to do it. Find out how to be independent. Find out how strong you can be. Believe in yourself.

One day you may not be able to chop your own wood. Won’t you wish that you had? Or at least tried?

Build a life you’re responsible for. Do the work.
