Goodnight, Little, Bitty Pig

This is Fruitycake. Some stories have to told, even though they are sad. Some stories have to told, even though it is hard to tell them. That is the case with the little, bitty pig. The little, bitty pig who went to sleep outside of our bamboo gate.

Once upon a time, there was a little, bitty pig. She was spotted and brindle and pretty and carefree. Just like a little, bitty pig should be.

She spent her days in the woods by the little big house that I live in.

Although I am a dog with a mighty big bark, I let her root around without a peep.

I knew she was all alone without her momma pig and her brothers and sisters. I know how it feels to be alone in a big world when you’re little bitty.

She played and she played until one day she got tired. She wondered how to get food. You see, her mom had decided she was strong enough to be on her own, and she had to find food for herself.

So she saw a mushroom in the woods. A mushroom she shouldn’t eat. And mushroom that would make her go to sleep.

I also know what it’s like to be hungry and to eat anything you can. But the little, bitty pig did not know she shouldn’t eat that mushroom. And she did.

Any amount helps here

I didn’t hear her rooting around that night. But somehow, I knew she was there. And she was there. But she had gone to sleep. She had gone to sleep in a big leaf pile that she had made. A leaf pile just big enough to be comfortable and peaceful. The mushroom made her go to sleep and not wake up. And she will forever be a memory in that leaf pile. She will forever be a memory in my dreams. Goodnight, little, bitty pig.

Little, bitty pig wasn’t here very long. And no one would have known her story here if Boy Person had not found her. He cried at the sight of her and the big little leaf pile she had made. He wondered why life is so sad sometimes. How a little, bitty pig could just be gone and no one knows. And how many persons and animals die each day without a goodbye.

They all matter. The little, bitty pig matters. But he did not bury her. Instead, he left her to be used for others who may need her to live and survive. And he decided not to interfere. As sad as we are for little, bitty pig, her life has a lesson and I hope you’ll find it.

Thank you

You see, I was attacked by a big pig last year. A pig trying to survive. A pig scared. A pig that mattered even though I was harmed. The world is not in order, or the way it should be from persons making it so. And it’s not the fault of animals who have had to adjust to that world.

So think before you want to harm anyone like little, bitty pig. Think before you speak. Think of her with her little spots and stripes in her big little leaf pile.

Goodnight little, bitty pig. You had a hard life but one I believe mattered. I hope you’re frolicking around with so many pigs and jumping into leaf piles. I hope one day we get to play together.

Goodnight little bitty pig.

The little bitty pig

Had a very little dream

To be a good pig

To catch the sun’s gleams.

He wanted to be

A big pig one day

And he wanted to play

But on this earth, he did not stay.

He had a short life

Just like his tail

But his story goes on

Just like a boat sails.

For you see,

The little bitty pig

Was just like you and me

Our lives do matter

Even if our time I shattered.

So do all you can

You may be little bitty in size

But you do matter!

To the sky you can rise!
