This is Fruitycake. Some things have to make you stop and realize how funny life is. Like when we woke up this morning and turned on the radio, and the song we heard was Born In The USA. Aren’t we in that Italy place?

Funny is what we all need sometimes, especially when life gets too serious. Life is too serious around here. Missing Brickle and trying to get papers ready for our important appointment next week.

And then, on top of that banana sundae of debacles, we had a baby pigeon show up yesterday.

Someone who needed our help. The persons spent all day trying to find out what to do for her. And there were lots of people giving us advice. Although we were sad, we were glad to help her and took it as a sign. Why? We needed to feel needed. It was a sad song this pigeon was singing. But we wanted to make it better.

By the afternoon, the baby pigeon was trying to fly more, but we were told that she was in danger if we left her outside. So as we were figuring out what to do, Girl Person went back outside. She prayed for guidance on how to make this pigeon’s life the best she could. She prayed that if her interference was not necessary to realize that. Because it wasn’t about her. To be needed doesn’t always mean to intervene.

As she prayed that, the little bird started to walk away, tried to lift up in flight a few times and failed. But then, she lifted up one last time and was gone. That sad song was now made better.

Boy Person was trying to build a shed for our new bike and when he came back, he wasn’t sad to see she was gone. But happy for her. He said a prayer out loud that maybe she could hear somewhere. That it was a privilege to have met her and thanked her for needing us just a little while.

Sad things happen in life, and all of us are necessary. All of us. We need each other. No individual, big or small though is more important. Because without us all, the world wouldn’t be the same. Take the sad things and learn. Move on.

Fly away, even if you have no one physically there with you, I can guarantee you that someone is cheering you on.
