This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. I always try to make myself available. You know…for advice. For arresting. I try to be a sort of place to come for the persons and Digby when he doesn’t smell so bad. I try to be a refuge. Like a waterfall.
A few days ago, we ventured out to a city called Paterson, New Jersey. No. Not because we are city type folks. But because we heard about a beautiful waterfall there.
Yes. A waterfall in a city.
It’s not often that two opposite things are together. But here, a long time ago, persons decided that it would be a good idea to get power and make things with the energy from this waterfall. And so they built all kinds of things around it.
The world we live in is a complicated one. But only because persons make it so. Nature and our earth know how to get along. How to make things beautiful. How to live in harmony.
The rushing waters of Paterson Great Falls were used at one time for progress.
But now, the falls are used as a refuge for ones wanting peace and tranquility by what was built around them. The original businesses are no longer there. Big warehouses are empty except for museums. Is this the harmony planned for long ago? Or was it a result of too much progress? It’s something to think about.
Why should we have to escape our daily world and life? Why not build a peaceful life and keep it that way?
Paterson Great Falls is a refuge. And we can be too. Even when the world around us is complicated, we don’t have to let it change us. We can be strong like a waterfall. A waterfall in a city.
Being strong may mean others will come to us when they need refuge. And as long as we are taking care of ourselves, we can be that refuge. We can be a source of strength, of beauty and peace. No matter what.
So be that waterfall today. Never doubt your power. Be who you are and who you want to be. No matter what or who is around you.
