It’s Hard To Say Goodbye

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. Well. Sometimes, life is dern emotional. I have to put aside my emotions a lot as Sheriff. I have to get stuff done. Maybe you are like me. You do what you have to do, and you try to be strong about it. But then, a flood of emotions takes over like Digby’s smell on a hot, muddy, summer day.

That’s how we feel right now. You see, we are leaving this campground next Sunday.

And it’s not just leaving the beach and the trails and all the people we have met.

But it’s leaving all the other individuals that made our time here so great. And quite simply, it’s too hard to us to say goodbye. Although if we didn’t say thank you, that wouldn’t be respectful.

So our friend Jax said he could do it. So without further adieu, here’s Jax.

Hi. This is Jax. I don’t mind saying goodbye to everyone. Because I’m a stuffed animal and I can set my emotions aside a little bit better. I can just sew myself up again if need be.

I will start the goodbyes with Scarlet Pimpernel. We will miss you.

Yes, we know that this visit, you were less mad at us, Scarlet Pimpernel. That’s because you had lost all your feathers to grow new ones, and I suppose you had to put in a little more energy to that. Also, the persons did their research and found out what your favorite birdseed was.

You’re still quite breathtaking and I only wish that you could go with us. Boy Person is really going to miss feeding you and your friends.

It gave him a sense of purpose and reason to get up in the morning. Can a little red bird help someone with depression? You did, Scarlet Pimpernel. You matter. Live long and beautiful with your purpose.

Nuts The Squirrel, we didn’t know you long.

But the RV awning will never be the same. You never gave up with your mission to take a bite out of crime. And based on your ear with a chunk out of it, I suppose your tenacity is known far and wide. We can only hope that the next RV that parks in site 165 has a sense of humor. Or a lot of nuts to bribe you with.

Loco The Lizard, your sweetness amazed us.

Even though we were in site 164 for just a short while, you formed an attachment to us and to lounging on the dog beds. You even came to visit us in site 165. You are a friend of friends. Your willingness to trust gave us a feeling of belonging. Thanks for welcoming us to your neighborhood.

Linda The Alligator, many people fear you. Many people are amazed by you.

We respect you and will miss your work ethic for being on time. We got to know your routines and you watched us from afar, as we watched you. We will never forget your eyes and nose above the water and how people would stop and stare. We can only hope that people realize you just want to be left alone. Friendship isn’t always about conversation. It’s about understanding. We will miss you, Linda.

The Well Dressed Peeper. Oh, we didn’t forget you, well dressed peeper. For awhile, we thought you just liked to peck the windows and try to fly at us for fun. And yep. That was the truth. I suppose we could not be the best of friends. But sometimes, we will admit, we need alone time too. And when you camp, you don’t get that. So find some “me” time, well dressed peeper. And stop looking in other people’s windows. Maybe go to a spaw day. Maybe we need one too.

It’s actually very hard to leave. We’ve enjoyed our time here. And more than likely, our hearts will call us back. Hearts have a way of getting you to where you want to be. But do we always listen?

You may be wondering where we are headed. But just like dogs live in the moment, that’s what this trip is about. Everyday will be a surprise. Are you ready to unwrap it?

Just like days, don’t take individuals in your life for granted. We never know how long we have with each other. Say hello. Talk. Say goodbye, even if it’s hard. Even if you don’t know what to say. Your heart will speak for you.
