Pigs On The Roof

This is Fruitycake. They say that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I guess that goes for anyone. Even a wild pig.

Last night, we were trying to sleep. The windows were open and the fireflies would fly in and light up the room. Hearing the waterfall flow and seeing the light from the fireflies certainly made sleep come to us faster.

But do you know what can come even faster? Being woken up by some very loud sounds coming from the roof. A bang here and a bang there. Heavy footsteps and heavier footsteps in unison.

At first, whenever we hear noises, we simply ignore them. Because there are a lot of noises. But when they keep coming, usually Girl Person will wake up and say “hey, did you hear that?”, and then Boy Person will say “yeah, I guess I need to go check it out.” This night was no different except the sounds were louder than normal and the animal it was coming from was much bigger.

How big are the wild boars here? Well, I should know. Their tusks are around seven inches long and I know all about that. And because they are so big, you can imagine how loud they sound when they jump on to the roof.

Why would pigs jump on a roof? I certainly don’t know. They must like to party.

Why would pigs jump on a roof? Maybe they want to help us fix it.

Why would pigs jump on a roof? Maybe they think it’s funny. I agree. It is kind of funny.

But they didn’t stay on the roof for long. Perhaps they realized they were afraid of heights. Or maybe they were afraid of dog named Fruitycake inside. Yeah, that’s it.

If pigs on a roof can happen, anything can happen. It’s easy to ignore the possibilities that exist in life. Sometimes we are so used to our negative thoughts thoughts and feelings like grief, guilt and anger. Those feelings can feel normal, and when we try to feel more positive and open to the wonderful things that can happen to us, that may feel odd. That may feel uncomfortable. Happiness can be uncomfortable? Yes. But you deserve it.

And you’ll get used to it. I want you to try. But don’t try to catch pigs on a roof. How did they get down? We don’t know. But we do know that the laughter got our spirits up!

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

We cannot believe that it’s nearing the one year anniversary of Brickle’s passing on July 29th. We wish to honor his life on this day next month. And we hope you will be a part.

Peanut Butter Brickle’s life here on this earth was meaningful and precious. He spent so much of his life with us at shelters and rescues, he and Digby were the faces of animal rescue for over a decade.  And we will and promise to him and to you that we will continue his legacy by using his home and this property in all ways we can to make a difference.

We plan a special, happy, funny, memorial video on July 29th. More ways to be involved are to be announced this week.

Our first goal for this special day? If you have followed us or read this blog, do you remember how we promised Brickle a picnic table when we found a home?

All campgrounds had a picnic table. And on our travels, Brickle knew we were at our home spot when he got his picnic table.

We want to make his dream come true and honor him this year with a picnic table which will be shared with ones visiting this oasis. And which will be here at his spot, his home. Would you like to be a part of this first part of our project?

You can secure a name on our picnic table! Options are available here.  Please specify what name you would like us to include and you will receive a photo of it before the event on July 29th.

Simply put, we cannot do our best for rescues and our mission without getting the basics here and the property and home ready to be used. Brickle continues to take care of us, and hopefully in turn, make a difference in your life too. Thank you for your continued support, love and faith in this big project and mission to Make Rescues The Breed Of Choice!

Looks like Fruitycake might need a hair cut for the summer. So how did the pigs get on and then get off the roof? Just wondering!
