This is Fruitycake The Raccoon. I’m learning so much about the persons since I was adopted from that shelter jail. But would you believe that they are learning too? I’m quite the raccoon. I’m quite the dog. I’m quite my own person.
One thing that they are learning is that I do not like water in puddles. I don’t like the rain. I do not like drinking water either. I don’t like it on my face.
So because they are learning all about me and what I like and what I don’t like, I thought perhaps I could maneuver my way back inside quickly yesterday when it was raining. Girl Person insisted that I go outside to go to the bathroom. Did I mention the rain?!
There was a flood warning. There was lightening. There was rain. Yes. Rain. I didn’t have to go to the bathroom but I wasn’t given the choice. And so as Girl Person kept telling me to go to the bathroom so we could go back in. I thought quickly.
And I knew the answer. I would pretend to go to the bathroom. A few times.
It may be true that dogs can’t lie. But we can sure pretend when we need to. Did you learn something about me? Just call me the Great Pretender.
I may not be perfect like Brickle. But I’m me. I may not like water now. Maybe I will later. Maybe I won’t. And the persons say that’s ok. But they tell me I don’t have to even pretend. All I have to be is me. And all you have to be is you.
You may have been through so much, just like me. Don’t pretend those problems never happened. But work thru them. If I can go out in a storm, you can weather the storms of your past to move on.
Will I pretend next time when it’s raining that I went to the bathroom so I can go back inside? Perhaps. Ok. Yes. But I won’t pretend to be ok with something I’m not. You shouldn’t either.
