This is Peanut Butter Brickle. If there is one thing I love, it’s myself.

If there’s another thing I love, it’s nuts. Peanuts absolutely. It is who I am named after.
But I found another nut I love besides Digby.

Chestnuts.

And I had no idea they even existed. When we got to camp, we saw all of these little green and prickly balls all over the place! We thought maybe they were some type of cactus.
But then we saw the squirrels eating them. And anyone knows that the squirrels are always trying to get my peanut butter. So I thought, hmmmm. They must know something I don’t know. Which was a hard nut to swallow.
So Girl Person asked others what they were. And finally we found out that they were chestnuts! The chestnut tree? This was a very special tree.
The persons said they had eaten chestnuts before. But they had no idea that they grew like this. No idea.
But as excited as they were to find chestnuts to eat, they looked at a particular squirrel who every day when to the top of this very tall chestnut tree.
Every day he would climb to the very top of the skinniest branch and find the chestnuts. Some he would drop. But we were just glad he didn’t drop.
He is certainly talented. Certainly. But as Girl Person was picking up the nuts he dropped, Boy Person said nope. Nope. Nope. Those were the squirrel’s nuts. Those were his chestnuts. He needed them way more than us.
You see, he has to stick up for the winter. Girl Person was very disappointed. Because she knew Boy Person was right.
So she took just a few for us. And the rest they found and keep finding get left on a plate for the squirrel and his friends. And each night they come to eat them. And we say you’re welcome.

We say sometimes you feel like a nut.But you know someone else needs it more.
It’s easy for us to not realize we have more in comparison to others. Are we stockpiling things we don’t need that someone else could use?
Are we looking out for others or only for ourselves?
Sometimes being generous isn’t the easiest thing to do. But it’s always the right thing to do.
