Aliens Or Dogs Or Both?

It’s Sunday and that means a look back at a Brickle and Digby memory! Sometimes, I even find a new way to relate their stories to myself now. And I hope that you can too.

I’ve always been interested in the possibilities of life on other planets. I’ve always loved the beauty of Jupiter and the way that the moon appears randomly in a daytime sky.

When I was a child, I can remember building models of the solar system with my dad.

You already know that I love dogs.  And so when we traveled to the state of New Mexico in the RV, I was thrilled to find out that in Roswell, New Mexico, there was a museum you could take dogs to!  Obviously, any dog friendly activity was what we looked for on our travels. And this seemed perfect! Why? Because it was the UFO Museum.

Now, I’m all for dog friendly places. But perhaps in retrospect, I should have realized that giant alien displays with loud noises and kids screaming from the aforementioned scenario was not a great place for Digby and Brickle.

We had Digby’s howling and fear of giant anything (the giant baked potato at the Idaho Museum didn’t go over well either.)

And then, we had Brickle’s dislike of tiny persons and screaming.  Yeah, I guess that it wouldn’t have been their idea of a perfect day.  But when I look back, they were probably valid in being mad at me for making them pose on couches with aliens as well. I’m very sorry Mr. Alien for getting a shower from Digby when you were trying to watch TV.

Seeing Brickle and Digby’s confusion over what the heck we were doing that day still makes me laugh. Brickle wanted no part of this nonsense and made it known with his death ray stare that Darth Vader would have been proud of.

Brickle wanted no part in figuring out if there was life on other planets when he was annoyed at the current life on our planet. Me.

I’m sure in my heart that Brickle and Digby put up with a lot from us.

I just thought they would want to go anywhere with us. But in looking back, and in knowing Fruitycake now, I do realize that there are places they would rather not be. And sometimes, they would rather wait for us to deal with the aliens.

There are so many mysteries in life. But what amazes me is that people don’t see the miracles of the lives they share our current planet with. The individual personalities of our dogs is not to be taken lightly, and when you do see that, it gives you a responsibility to treat them as such.

Brickle and Digby may not have picked Roswell, New Mexico to spend a day in.

And when we did our rescue video as aliens, I’m sure that was the last straw.

Or maybe it was the hat…

But they sure did make the most of their time there being themselves and enjoying it their own way.  Aliens or dogs or both? That day, we had both. And how often can you say that?!

I stand with Digby and Brickle, I don’t like loud noises and creepy things. Unfortunately, because I’m so short, I guess Brickle wouldn’t like me, but I would try to win him over. I get lots of stares from kids whose parent never taught them not to stare at people who didn’t exactly look like them. I actually had a kid follow me around a Target store, yelling, ‘Mom look at ‘this’! His mother finally looked at me, but instead of apologizing or making the kid apologize, she just pulled the kid away. A lesson for all!
