You Can Go Your Own Way

This is Digby Pancake. Where are you going today?

Maybe you’re not going anywhere in particular. But maybe your mood is.

Maybe you’re going down that same path we were yesterday. In the mud. Moods in the mud.

Girl Person has a rough time with that Depression Monster. And sometimes it even tries to follow us on the hiking trails.

It’s on those days when we decide to turn around. We go our own way.

That’s right. Just because you’re on a path that’s made for you, it doesn’t mean you have to stay on it. It doesn’t mean you have to stay in a bad mood.

It also doesn’t mean you have to keep going in one direction.

When your mood is sinking lower, don’t go slower. Speed up your effort to turn it around.

But the hardest part? Stopping and making that decision to go your own way. No one may be going that way. No one may understand what you’re doing. You may get some strange looks when you go your own way. Because maybe what helps your mood is music. Music no one else appreciates.

Perhaps you like a certain food.

A certain book. A certain movie. You don’t have to explain to anyone else why you like what you do. You don’t have to be like everyone else. Whatever helps you…helps you.

If you remember that you have the courage and the strength to help yourself when you’re feeling low, you’ll be prepared.

You’ll remember how to make yourself feel better. You’ll be able to stop when you start going down the low road.

And get on the high one. You will value yourself enough to help yourself.
