This is Peanut Butter Brickle. In certain situations, it’s hard to find the right words. Or even the right barks.
Yesterday, our friends here had to say goodbye to their cat. They had to say goodbye to Maverick.
They didn’t know when they woke up in the morning that by the afternoon, the rescue cat who had been in their family for over eleven years would not be with them anymore.
Maverick the cat was a beautiful cat, wasn’t he? The best of the best.
He and his family, including Juneau the puppy, have welcomed us with open paws.
And since most everyone knows the pain that comes with saying goodbye to the ones we love, we know that you will know sometimes there are no words to say to make it better.
So as we heard the persons talking about Maverick and all of the things that he liked, we heard them mention ham.
Ok. Digby really heard them mention ham.
You know our persons are vegan. They only eat vegetables.
But we aren’t vegan. And so Girl Person thought that in honor of Maverick and his favorite food, we would go on a hike.
And we would talk about him. And we would remember him. And we would call it The Ham Hike.
Digby was all for it. Even though it was explained to him that ham would have to be for a snack for us later. This was very short notice. But you can only mention ham so many times to Digby.
We hiked. We cried. We laughed. We remembered Maverick. His persons had a lot to talk about.
We watched Juneau the puppy enjoy one of her very first hard hikes.
And we knew that her role to make us laugh on The Ham Hike was not to be overlooked. Sometimes there is no appropriate words for comfort. But sometimes you don’t need words.
Have you lost someone that you love? We know how it feels.
Some days the pain is incomprehensible. Some days you can’t shake it.
So what I like to do is do a good deed or do something to honor the one we have lost. The Ham Hike was for Maverick.
And we know we will always remember him.
Digby would like his sandwich now.
