Lightening Bugs

This is Peanut Butter Brickle. There are a lot of things that can be explained. Gravity is one.

How birds fly is another.

The aging process can be explained too.

Don’t worry. I’ve always been this handsome from day one and that will continue.

But I saw something for the first time yesterday. And although I’m sure someone else can explain it, I don’t want them to. To me, it’s magic.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw the little lights around my head in the woods. At first, I thought I was seeing things. But then I saw more. And more. Everywhere I turned, I saw little lights that would appear and disappear like magic. And for me, it was magic.

Digby saw them too, and he was even more impressed. It surprised the persons that we were so intently looking. But I wondered why. Why don’t persons understand that we appreciate beauty too? And why does everything have to be explained?

You see, Girl Person told me that some people call these lights lightening bugs or fireflies. She said they always remind her of when she was a kid at her Granny and Pappy’s house. And how they ate watermelon outside in the summer time and watched the lights at night.

Boy Person said they remind him of being younger too. And how perhaps it was like magic because at the time, he took it all in.He didn’t need for someone to explain to him. It was magic. And well, they still are magic.

Instead of wondering why something makes us feel good, or younger, or happier, sometimes take it for what it is.

Don’t look for a reason to find magic. Make your own.
