This is Deputy Digby Pancake. I’ve learned in this family that I follow. And I like it that way. Sheriff Brickle makes all the decisions. He also tells me what to do which isn’t so bad. I get to think a lot less. And enjoy a lot more.
Maybe you aren’t that way. Maybe you like to lead. Maybe you are the Sheriff Brickle of your family or friends. And maybe you like responsibility. I’ll let you have it.
Sometimes though, you have no choice but to follow. And as we drive the Natchez Trace Parkway for the next while, we have to follow where the road goes. We may be able to side track a little bit like where we are going today…but we have to get back on the road. Because our goal is to finish the drive. What’s your goal?
The Natchez Trace Parkway is over 400 miles. You may think it doesn’t sound like a long way. But it depends who is driving on it. For us, navigating with the Big Blue Treat Wagon is challenging. But we’ve wanted to do this drive for a long time.
Do we realize we will have some bumps? We already have. But it’s good to have goals. Even if they seem hard. For us yesterday, we decided to stop and think about why we are doing this.
For Girl Person, her reward for traveling the Natchez Trace is getting to visit somewhere she has always wanted to go. Where that singer Elvis Presley was born. She’s wanted to visit it all her life, but for some reason, her roads never led there. So today is the day.
For me and Brickle, we may not have goals. But seeing the persons work towards something is rewarding for us. It’s like when we finish a long trail.
So back on the road we go today.
We don’t have a place to stay tonight because there aren’t many places along this parkway. So what we find will be where we sleep! And dinner. Don’t forget dinner.
A road makes traveling easy. But you have to put forth the work to get on it. If you’ve been waiting to go down the road to your goals, what are you waiting for? It may be hard. Long. Tiring. But you can do it. You have always been able to. You may have to stop. Take breaks. You may even break down. But the road will be there to get back on. So. Get out that map. I know you have it planned out.
