This is Fruitycake. Every day we wake up here, we do wonder what is going to happen. Sometimes we look back on our day when we post our video every night, and the day seemed to sure hold a lot.

But yesterday? Sunday is supposed to be pasta making day and resting day here. It’s our new tradition. We are trying to embrace the Italy lifestyle..but yesterday we embraced a flood of water.

Now, let me just say this. My persons chose to be here. And my persons chose to take on this project. My persons and Brickle thought it was very important to get here for a bigger purpose. But we chose this. The persons in that Texas place who just went thru all the flooding did not choose that. And we acknowledge that with loving hearts.

But yesterday, an unexpected rain storm hit us with surprise. A big surprise! We were just getting back from a walk. And that was fortunate. Because the rain came down with force. Lots of force. So much so that the water came thru the rock that our house is built in to. And the persons had to get that water out.

We can’t seem to understand the weather forecasts here. Just something else we don’t understand to add to the list. And we didn’t know there were warnings out. So when the water started pouring into the one side of the house, we were surprised. And even more surprised to see how much.

But you know what? The persons didn’t panic this time. They just moved everything and laughed and wondered how to stop it. Girl Person even started getting celery to plug the holes, because you know, does anyone like celery anyway?

Eventually, after a couple of hours the rain stopped and yet, we still have a lot to clean up today. But Boy Person decided to take down some of the trash from the event down the mountain path. The wet, slippery one.

He was so proud of himself that he had made it all the way to the bottom of the path where our neighbors are. They had people over and were all outside talking and eating when Boy Person slipped and all they saw was him holding on to trash and a run away wheelbarrow past them. The babies they were holding shrieked.

The nonnas gasped and looked away.

And all Boy Person could yell on the way down was “non problema”!

But yeah, the crazy Americans…us…were at it again. In the midst of a mess and yet laughing about it. Because when you have so many problems, you can’t pick just one to get upset about.

We don’t know what else to do but keep going. We have made it this far. And yet, problems will happen on the way to our vision of using this land and property for what it was made to be used for and us too. Yes. We may have been the only ones who would have chosen this path. So we must be here for a reason.

You may feel like you’re treading water somewhere right along with us. We hear you and we see you. We see each other. You either support someone with their beliefs to make a difference or you swim on by. It’s ok if you do, but wave and wish them well. We hope you’ll choose to swim with us, even thru the storms. Or get in the wheelbarrow.

Yesterday’s storms caused some flooding at the rustico. The rain has thankfully stopped, but now begins the cleanup. Some of our emergency supplies were lost, and we discovered the exact places where the water came in.

To prevent this in the future, we need to:
🧱 Cement the spots where water entered
🧼 Get cleanup supplies like squeegees (yes, that’s how you spell it!)
🍲 Restock emergency storm food we lost
