Pop The Cork Or Don’t

This is Fruitycake. Every day is a a present, isn’t it?

But some just go around carrying their present and not even looking at it all day. Persons are so good at that.

Even though the last few days have not had my favorite weather, but certainly a lot of mud, I still think of them as a gift.

I know the rain won’t last forever. And even the mud will dry.

So yesterday, instead of avoiding the reality of rain, I tried to think of it in a different way. I didn’t let the rain distract me from the birds singing. Or the flowers.

I even decided to let the rain feel refreshing.

I inspired Girl Person with my positivity.

And even though she was sick, she still had to go to the store to get our supplies. But she decided that spending 3.99 on a bottle of sparkling wine was appropriate.

That every day should be celebrated. She also got bread and vegetables for me. I always get excited about that.

And when it was time to pop the cork that night, she was excited. So was the cork apparently. Because it flew out with a vengeance. At her face.

Now. It’s a good thing we remembered the emergency number here in this Italy place for future reference. But we didn’t need it that night. No. The cork landed on her lip. And although she doesn’t need lip injections now, her lip is not feeling so good. Pop the cork in life. Or don’t. Sometimes. Don’t.

When she sat down to take care of her lip and promised herself to be more careful and observant next time, an ember from the fire jumped on to her pants. Making a hole rather quickly to match her lip.

And then, as she decided to finish making dinner, turned on the burner, and the tank exploded. And that’s when she decided it was time for bed. The present of the day just kept on giving.

You see, life happens. You never know what your present will be for the day. But if you just carry around the previous day’s present, how wasteful is that! Give today a chance. No matter what you got yesterday.

Pop the cork or don’t. It’s up to you. And only you.
