The Stolen Sign and Moldy Backpack

This is Fruitycake. You may have noticed that Girl Person and I took a few hours off yesterday.

Boy Person and I had to come to meet Girl Person after she got some supplies. Because all of the buses were full and she was having a hard time carrying it. Even though she didn’t get a lot of stuff, carrying anything for over 20 miles in two days is tiring. And after we got home, she simply gave out.

We’re sorry we’ve asked you a few times recently, but if 2 Traveling Dogs gives you $5 worth of joy, join the 2% who donate, whether it’s $5 one time or monthly here

But someone else must have been on our path that day while we were gone. A sign that Girl Person made when we first got here to remind her to work hard was stolen. It said on one side, out of office and the other side said in the office. As you can imagine, it always said in the office.

After unloading her moldy backpack she has also had since we got here and wondering if the sign being gone was a sign, she realized maybe it was trying to tell her something.

That if you are always working and not resting, you just keep carrying around more and more in a moldy backpack.

You don’t get very far. And you stink. And whatever you are carrying around stinks. Why keep putting more in your life and suffer?

Because maybe, like my persons, you were taught to suffer. That the harder you work, even if it’s not productive and kills you in the process is what you’re supposed to do.

This Italy place is teaching us and reaching our hearts.

But it’s not happening all at once. Improvement for anyone can’t happen overnight. But we can get a new backpack and treat ourselves better.

Because when we do, and when we do what we were meant to do, what we carry won’t be so heavy. And it leaves strength to help others.

Dear Fruity, why would anyone steal Girl Person’s sign? Makes no sense, but then a lot of what you guys are going through sometimes doesn’t make sense. You need to take a break; going up and down your path is hard work. The work will still be there. Please, you need to take care of yourselves.
