This is Girl Person. Oh, baked goods. You know your favorite. Maybe it’s a croissant or a cinnamon roll. Maybe it’s a fresh sugar cookie or a cannoli.
For Brickle, his love affair with baked goods started early, with his first trip to a pet supply store.

All the dogs in my life up until Brickle hated to travel. They hated to ride in cars or go anywhere. I’m sure that is because the only place we ever went was to a vet. But with Brickle, he came into my life at a time I needed him the most. And I took him everywhere. My grandfather was just put in an assisted living facility. And if you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, you know what Pappy meant to me. What does this have to do with baked goods? Let me explain.

I decided that Brickle needed to be a therapy dog. So I got it in my mind that I should see how he did at the nursing home. Before we went that first day, we stopped at a new pet supply store and that store had a little display case of baked dog treats. I knew I had to get him one! When we got up to the counter, I told them which one he wanted, and he put his paws up on the counter to say nope. He wanted a different one. When they took it out of the case, he did the unthinkable. He started humping the counter in excitement. Too. Much. Excitement. I quickly threw my money on the counter along with my dignity and ran.
Every single time…every baked good later…this spectacle occurred. And as much as I tried to avoid the stares of shocked people at bakeries, pet supply stores, vet offices or anyone who gave him a baked good got the show.
One day on our travels, we found ourselves in New Orleans. You know, the Big Easy.
And again, Brickle proved to be easy as I walked over with a fresh beignet. We should have known better. We should have gave him his beignet away from the crowds. But I guess if it’s gonna happen, it might as well happen there. And we laughed so hard powdered sugar came out of our noses. The baked good obsession never stopped and now, oh, I’m so glad I have the laughs.

Others can surely embarrass us sometimes. Even ones as proper as Brickle have a wild side.

Sometimes, the pure joy that our dogs display on the outside can seem crazy to us. But I think not showing joy and excitement is crazier. Thanks for the laughs, Brickle. I will have a beignet for you when we meet again.

My goodness, I never knew about Brickle having a fun time whenever he got a bakery treat. I’m sure that in public it is embarrassing, but dogs will be dogs. We had a little dog, Roscoe who loved his stuff animal and he would hump it. He didn’t care who was around or what time of day it was. We would try not to laugh, but he was just so determined to have his way with that stuffed animal. He had been fixed but the urge was always there. Dogs will always give us good memories.
