Well, Lawd Have Mercy, Louisiana!

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  Oh, what a week we had in this Louisiana place!  But it’s time that we head to our #37 state on this Adventure Of A Lifetime, somewhere called Arkansas.  We’ve got a long way to go…and a short time to get there.  At least a seven hour drive in the rain today.

First point. Arkansas does not sound like you spell it.  But I am a dog, so I don’t have to spell, therefore, I do not care so much.  Beignet also does not sound like it is spelled either, but I don’t care because we probably ate all of them in Louisiana anyhow. And Sheriff Brickle almost got arrested by himself for his love of beignets.  Well, lawd have mercy, Louisiana! I cannot watch this enough times.

Not only did we get to visit New Orleans, but we got to visit with the pawsome animal rescuers, the Magnolia Chapter Of The Humane Society Of Louisiana in Franklinton. Here’s the episode of “Stop Hounding Me” with them in case you missed it.

We stayed at one of our absolute favorite parks so far, the Bogue Chitto State Park.  Probably, it was in our top five picks on this trip.

A river, a beach, peaceful walks and stars so bright that it made us forget all of our problems.  When you look up at the stars, you realize how small we are and how our problems don’t mean a thing.  As our Gandma always says, when you are feeling bad, look up.

We then got to go to the northeast part of Louisiana and visit another place, Poverty Point. We went to the dog-friendly Poverty Point National Monument.  If you ever get a chance to see this, it is pretty neat, even for a dog.  People lived her many, many years ago and their houses made out of the earth still has remains here.

Lawd have mercy, Louisiana!  You have so much to offer. Your food is great, your people are friendly, and there are great things to do.

Well, almost all of your people are friendly.  Seems as though some fellow campers who were trying to climb a hill on the back of our campsite were scared to death by a Sheriff and a Deputy.  Seems as though they said we were rabid.  Actually, they said that the dogs with rabies would eat them up.  Well, if you are a Louisiana beignet we may eat you up.  But we don’t have rabies. Why would you think that?

Lawd have mercy, Louisiana!

We will miss you.  But it is time to head to that Arkansas place today and somewhere called Hot Springs.  Sheriff Brickle says that is also an appropriate place to go since he is so hot.  Puleeze Brickle.  Lawd have mercy.  Did you forget how many beignets you ate?  Your butt didn’t.  Your butt also didn’t forget about the jambalaya Girl Person made us.  And if you missed her live demo on the Facebook page, check it out here.

Lawd have mercy, Louisiana.  We will never forget you. Thanks to everyone who made our time here so nice.

Today, we have one of the longest drives we have had in awhile. It is going to be hard, but we can do it.  Wanna come to Arkansas?  We are going to be visiting with the Hot Springs Village Animal Welfare League this week and meet some of their adoptables like Tiny, whose mom died recently.  He only has three legs, but that doesn’t stop him from cuddling. He needs a forever home.

So let’s have some fun in Arkansas like we did in Louisiana. Till next time, Louisiana place, “Il faut je fais route”. (That means I’ve got to hit the road in french barking).

If You’re Happy And You Know It, You May Get Arrested In New Orleans.

This is Deputy Digby Pancake.  Is it appropriate to arrest your own Sheriff?  Is it appropriate to be embarrassed of your Sheriff?  Also, is it illegal to act like this in New Orleans, Louisiana when you are served beignets?

I know you are probably speechless.  I mean, a Sheriff can act like this when he is supposed to be upholding the law?  If this is what happened when everyone got served beignets at Cafe Du Monde’ in New Orleans, what would this world come to?  Girl Person says that is the least they have to worry about with all the parades going on.  Instead of throwing beads, can you imagine if they threw beignets instead?  I don’t want to imagine it if they acted like Sheriff Brickle here.

Since I am the one that loves pancakes so much, I thought that I would be the one to go crazy.  Who knew that beignets could bring out the Sheriff’s happy side?  Is there anyway that I can get a few more bags of these to save for an emergency and or bribery when the Sheriff is moody?  Seems like it would be a good idea in fact.

New Orleans surprised us.  One day was not enough.  We will never forget our day here filled with all kinds of happy people, music, pretty buildings, the bayous, the moss covered trees.  And we will miss New Orleans.  We will be back one day for sure.

I have to wonder.  Is there a limit to how happy we should be?  I have never known this limit if there is one, and limits here in Louisiana are made to be broken!  They have drive thru places for daiquiris, big cakes, cajun and creole food everywhere you turn, and people that are happy and proud of their great state.  I think Louisiana is a lesson for us…about happy.

You see, Sheriff Brickle doesn’t show his happy often because he works very hard to uphold the law.  But just like the Sheriff, we can all find our happy somewhere, although I do not suggest you do this in public. If you have something that makes you this happy…even if it is something you may think is a small thing, or an ordinary thing, give yourself a chance to find your happy today.  You may not be in New Orleans to find this happy, but if you are, Sheriff Brickle has already broken the law doing this, so feel free to get a beignet and go crazy.  But warning.  If you’re happy and you know it, you may get arrested in New Orleans.

Today is our rescue visit in Louisiana is with the Magnolia Chapter of the Humane Society in Franklinton, Louisiana!  They need our help very bad. One of the dogs that they have under their care is a little bit like the Sheriff.  You see, the state dog of Louisiana is the Catahoula Leopard..which is why Brickle may feel like he can do whatever he wants here.  But we will talk about that tomorrow.  Until then, meet Sassafrass.  And don’t forget our video with them and article will be on Sunday.  Until then…find your happy today.  And perhaps get arrested.
