Happy Gotcha Day, Fruitycake From All Of Us!

This is Girl Person. Today is a celebration! It’s Fruitycake’s three year Gotcha Day! So I have given him the day off from the blog!

Many of you know that I personally have been having a difficult time the last year. And I had no idea that a dog would once again save my life. And also in turn, save this blog. And in turn, hopefully we will save many lives together this year with your help too.

When we first adopted Fruitycake, he was a challenge. But the challenges of helping a former stray dog fit into camping life at the time was what we all needed.

To laugh.

And laughing has been a constant source of Fruitycake’s contribution to a person like me who doesn’t laugh much! His incessant barking at sticks…balls…streams…waterfalls, whatever, is part of his personality. Part of what makes him unique. And I hope people can see that if you truly pay attention to animals, they ALL have a personality. They all matter.

Brickle was Fruitycake’s friend too. His best friend.

And his grieving when Brickle passed away was overlooked by me. Because I was trying to breathe. I learned my lesson. That all animals grieve as well in their own ways. But they try to help us. And are selfless in that way. What a kind boy Fruitycake is.

On this Gotcha Day for Fruitycake, he will have spaghetti and his favorite treats. He will be celebrating and we will be celebrating him.

But most of all, Fruitycake hopes that on his Gotcha Day that you will continue to read his blog every day. That you will continue to help animals and people too where you live.  And we thank you for letting us a a dog named Fruitycake into your lives every day. We can’t wait to see what this year brings. And what Fruitycake has in store for us all!

Dear Fruitycake,

You are such a puzzle, but all the pieces seem to fit together. When we first saw your picture at that crowded, cold shelter, we knew you were ours. Our hearts weren’t ready for you though. We had lost Digby Pancake just a month before. And we weren’t ready to open our heart. But Brickle was ready. He was lonely. He needed you, Fruitycake. And Brickle always knew best.

Even by looking at your picture, we could tell that you were kind. We could see your heart. And you have proved your kindness every single day since we met you.

Kindness. That’s what you are.

On your third Gotcha Day today, I promise to you to be here. To stay around. You have saved my life. And you have given me purpose. But beyond that, beyond me, you deserve and will have the best life I can give you. Happy Gotcha Day, Fruitycake!
