When a devastating tragedy like the California fires happen, people band together to help. And what a beautiful thing that is. The last week in California has left most of us feeling overwhelmed and our hearts have broken over what we see.
The loss of life for animals and people, the loss of homes and businesses are just the start.

But after working in animal rescue for so many years, and visiting so many shelters in person, I know we all can only do so much. Right now, the focus is on California. And they do need help. But what most don’t realize is that other shelters and rescues from around the world are sending help. And they can’t do it without local support. Even we cannot do what we do at no charge for rescues and shelters without support. It’s just not possible.

When a catastrophe happens, often, other places are neglected. But the fact is, daily bills, operations and more are still the reality and norm for every shelter.

So don’t forget about the rescues and shelters where you live to. Share their posts. Give some time to volunteer. There are so many of us who want to help. Pick a way and go for it!

Two reputable organizations we can recommend right now assisting those in California are Bsst Friends Animal Society and Pasadena Humane. Please look to their social media and websites for guidance.

We want to fill social media with happy ways to save an animal’s life. We give our time and resources to this cause. We have worked daily for over a decade to grow our pages to help provide free exposure to shelters and rescues at no cost. We reserve space for animals in need. Not sponsors. But we need your support.
If you’d like to help us continue this cause and mission which includes blogs, videos and more, you can contribute any amount here. We cannot do this without you. Head to https://tinyurl.com/Fruitycakeblog to help!

You make a good point that we need to remember our own local animal shelters as we help the shelters in Los Angeles. This is what bothers me the most. I live on Social Security and it breaks my heart to not be able to help anywhere but the best I can do is share the rescue stories. I used to live in Long Beach, Ca so I know their needs. Luckily, the response I have been seeing on tv seem to be good, essentially the transportation of cats and dogs from the LA shelters to shelters up here in Washington state.
