When The Sign Says Closed

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle.  You may know the feeling.  You wake up one day and think to yourself, self?  I think I need some flip flops.  Or you may wake up and think to yourself, self?  I think that I need some ice cream and a beach ball.  Or you may wake up and think to yourself, self?  I think that I need a statue of an alligator holding a beach ball and also some Bugles.

But that day you may also decide to go to the store because that is where you should go to get flips flops, ice cream, a beach ball, a statue of an alligator holding a beach ball and also some crunchy snacks.  You make the effort to go there.  Cause this is very important.

And you get to that store, and there is a sign that says closed.

Signs.  I can’t read, nor do I want to.  And I see them everywhere.  Everywhere.

Since I can’t read them, I can only imagine what they say.  And I can imagine most of them give a warning that the most interesting dog in the world is me. And that I am around and that everyone should stop what they are doing when I am around.  That is why there are so many of those red signs, I guess.

Girl Person says that signs are important.  But the most relevant one to me today? The sign that says closed.  Because it is Monday.  And that is the only day the camp store is closed.

You may wonder.  Why is a store closed on a Monday when that is when you need an alligator statue and ice cream?  I just don’t know.  And I also can’t read this sign either.

Some days, you think you have it all figured out.  You make your plans, you are proud because you made your plans and it seems like door after door shuts on you…or doesn’t even open in the first place.

It’s on those days that you wonder if what you really want is really that important.

And I am here to tell you that it is.  We all want what we want.  We all have disappointments.  Especially when you want what you want.  And it seems like nothing else will do.

But when the sign said closed, Girl Person said we would instead make our own ice cream.  We would eat some crackers.  And as for the alligator statue? Well, maybe I could do without that for a night.  Maybe I will get him out of that camp store tomorrow…

Don’t think that you are the only one who seems to always have opportunities shut.  We all struggle.  We all have disappointments.

But it’s when one door is closed, that we look for another to open.  And that you don’t need a sign for.  Because it is up to you to call the  shots.  Now.  Pass me the Bugles. What are those things anyways?
