Spark In The Dark

This is Fruitycake. Someone remarked that it is dark here a lot. Yes.

Boy Person calls this this Smoky Mountains of Italy.

Yesterday we watched the clouds come in from the sea up the path and on top of the mountain. We wondered if it was going to rain. But if you wonder that here, the answer is always yes.

Girl Person and I had made a commitment to take a hikey hikey on my favorite path, rain or shine. And obviously it was rain. So we went anyway. And we enjoyed it. Well, most of it.

We’re sorry we’ve asked you a few times recently, but its Monday , April 21.. If 2 Traveling Dogs gives you $5 worth of joy, join the 2% who donate, whether it’s $5 one time or monthly.

Boy Person seemed to be the one really struggling the last few days. His light and laughter were fading. And he didn’t have many words. He’s been spending a lot of time thinking. And sometimes, the weight of the world, or an abandoned house all the way up the hills of Italy can weigh you down.

Things have seemed overwhelming here the last week, especially. Girl Person has been spending a lot of time at Brickle’s resting place trying to plant seeds and cleaning it up. She remarked that grief is its own person. It’s different for every loss. And the loss of Brickle really has been hard.

You know what else has been hard? Being me and trying to be a light in the dark. So when we went outside last night, and it was darker than even usual, and we saw little lights, I was amazed.

The lightening bugs were flying around in the dark, shining and twinkling and being as bright as they knew how to be. Despite the darkness, they were shining. And it did cheer me up and it cheered up the persons too. Oh, how wonderful!

In a world of darkness, especially now, it’s hard to be your own light. It’s hard to have a spark. It’s hard to keep flying. But hard doesn’t mean impossible. Your little light and yours alone may be what the world needs. In fact, I know it is. I need your light. The world needs your light too.

So today, shine despite the rain. Fly despite the clouds.

Stand out in a world of darkness and be the light you were meant to be! Be a spark in the dark!

Fruity, it has stopped raining here in the PNW and we have sunshine, too. But we still have lots of clouds. As a Christian, I’m sad that Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic Church has died. I’m sad because President Trump is destroying the United States bit by bit. I’m trying to see through the clouds to a better day.
