Who Is She?

This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. Some persons are a mystery.

Some songs talk about mysteries.

Some dogs are a mystery.  Like me.  Except there is no mystery that I am the most handsome dog on earth.

Sometimes, life in itself is a mystery.

And sometimes.  Sometimes.  Trees are a mystery.

There we were. Just taking a walk in the woods.  We had walked by the same tree many times before.  Digby had peed on it many times before.  But all of a sudden, there she was.  In the tree.  We saw her.

She stopped us in our tracks.  Girl Person said this was not something that you see every day…a face in a tree.  But I actually wondered why she thought this.  We see the faces of trees every day.

We see the faces of flowers, the faces in the sky, the faces in the things that persons walk past every day.

Sometimes, these faces speak louder to us than others.  But they only show their faces to those that are looking for them.  They only show their face to ones that want to see them.  That want to appreciate them.

Sometimes though, persons will only see exactly what is in front of them. It’s no mystery that persons think they are too important and have too many important things to worry about. No mystery at all.

So this tree had to put on her face.  Granny Person used to say that all the time before she put on her makeup.  But this is even more than that. When you want someone to see you for really what you are, it might take work on your part.  Putting your best face forward isn’t even what it’s about.  It’s about putting your real face forward.  If someone sees you for what you are, you don’t have to fake it.  No one can fake a face in a tree.  I know that.  I saw her.  But will you see all the other faces around you?  They are there.  No, don’t be scared.  Be appreciative when they notice you.

So the question remains. Who was she? This beautiful face in the tree.  I say that she is different for each and every one of us.  For me, she is the Goddess of Peanut Butter who bestows a peanut butter rain storm every few years.  I am still waiting for it, but she says it is coming.  And when that happens, peanut butter cookies, crunchy peanut butter and creamy peanut butter will all come down with it.

For Digby, he says that she is the Queen Of Pancakeland where houses are made of pancakes, cars are made of pancakes, and pancake parents carry around their pancake babies with blankets of pancakes, and since they obviously have pancake dogs and walk them on pancake leashes, everyone is happy there.

So find your face in the tree today.  Find a face in a flower.  Find a face in the sand.  And see what that face is trying to tell you.

As part of a healthier lifestyle plan (back to the lifestyle I lived before I had to stop working to take care of my mom), I have started walking around (as out the front gate, around the fence, into the back gate) the apartment complex. We have pansies everywhere. So — faces everywhere, so many different color combinations, such beautiful little faces looking up at me! I will start looking for more faces. I usually see a few human faces on my walk, some smiling, some not so much. Whether they’re smiling or frowning, they get from me a smile, a hello, an “enjoy this wonderful weather,” or something friendly. Sometimes, that will change the frown on a face to a smile. So, let’s see the faces, and if they’re on frowning people, try to help “turn that frown upside down.”
