This is Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle. When you are staying on the ocean like we are, you realize two things. First…there is nothing like the smell of salt air to wake you up in the morning. And second…there is nothing like old, dead fish breath to make you never want to smell anything ever again. Who has old, dead fish breath? Two guesses, and both would be correct.
Even old, dead fish breath can’t take my handsome away. My handsome is so strong that it overwhelms the breath. Plus, any old fish breath can be helped by some peanut butter, and it is a novel plan if I do say so myself.
If I didn’t know any better, I would think that some persons think that all dogs have fish breath, especially from the way they seem to run from me and Deputy Digby. I find it absolutely unbelievable that not all persons like dogs. But I find it highly believable that not all dogs like persons.
Lately, I have taken a liking to persons saying hello to me because it is a rare thing. If they are nice, it makes me happy, especially when they act like they aren’t scared of me. I really like it when someone asks what kind of dog I am because then, Girl Person can tell them about catahoulas and rescues and she always tells them about Digby too, even if they don’t ask because she doesn’t want him to feel left out.
Today, as we were walking along the beach, we heard two persons having a conversation. I am not one to eavesdrop, but I am on Tuesday. I am also not one to gossip, but I am on Wednesday.
So when I heard one woman person say to another woman person, “thank you for loving her”, I had to know why. Girl Person seemed to want to know too as she was pulling a dead crab out of Digby’s mouth. As we got closer, we heard one woman person saying that no one ever said hello to her dog, and it just broke her heart. Well, this furkid was a little rough around the edges, I must say. She was older and her bark pierced thru you like a rusted can of sardines. Her fur was matted, and she didn’t much want to be held, but she did like being talked to. And just because the other woman person told her hello, it changed her whole attitude.
Hello, is it me you’re looking for?
I can see it in your eyes
I can see it in your smile
She stopped barking, she rolled on her back and I knew that it made her day. Her day was about to get even better when she saw me and I told myself I had done a great job at the handsome.
Can one word or action change someone’s day for the better? I know it can.
Cause I wonder where you are and I wonder what you do
Are you somewhere feeling lonely? Or is someone loving you?
Simply saying hello is the right thing to do when you pass someone, isn’t it? We find that not many people do this. We find that persons think everyone else is invisible. So when us dogs try to say hello, does that seem abnormal to you? Isn’t that the way it should be?
Even with dead, old fish breath, which you may have too this early, remember that what you do matters. What you say matters. Will some people look at you strange because you said hello? Maybe. Probably. But perhaps when they pass someone else, they will say hello to them. And that one word may mean the world. I know it does to me. As well as peanut butter. Which is two words.
Tell me how to win your heart, for I haven’t got a clue
But let me start by saying I love you
-Sheriff Peanut Butter Brickle

Sheriff, ( and Deputy!!) anytime I see one or two of your little feeties dirty in the sand (especially!!) or even dirt and diamond-mining, ( 😉 ) I love dog paws of any kind, even when they are filthy. And sand toes to me are Heaven! I can’t believe people’s attitudes, in general, toward everything and everyone of late, and precious babies are part of the Everyone Equation! Just be nice, how hard is it? You are the Man, thank you for making another fur-baby feel warmer!!! And whenever I meet other furs, (after asking, course!!) I feel warmer too!!! It’s a win-win!!! Much love to the Persons and your brother, I can’t wait to watch your new rescue adventure!! Meantime, DIG YOUR TOOTSIES IN THE SAND AND SAY HELLO TO EVERYONE!!! xoxoxo
I had a pup, named Valentine many years ago. She liked nothing better than to roll in old dead fish! I always stop to say hello to dogs, with their humans’ permission of course.
Sadly, I’m the person who knows every dog’s name in my neighborhood, but none of their owners. I’m trying to be better to the people, but generally dogs are just nicer! I’m just sayin. . .
Love you Brivlle and Digby! I try to say to every dog hi meet. But sometimes their person’s font want me to say hi. Sad.
I understand about people acting like they are afraid of dogs. I have 2 little shih tzus (rescues) and i am amazed at how many people avoid them when we walk. Most people act like they are going to rip their arms off or something. And these guys are really small dogs too. It makes them really sad when nobody says hello. My guys just stop and lok at me like what did i do mommy? Wjy wont they stop to say ho to me. And when somebody does say hi, they are so happy. We will just keep trying to be nice and friendly to the nice people and their pups too.
Thank you for sharing your handsome and wisdom too.
