This is Deputy Digby Pancake. Welcome to Nevada, our #42 state on the Adventure Of A Lifetime!

It seems appropriate this fine May morning that we are near Las Vegas, Nevada. Why?  A year ago today we started this trip… and it sure was a gamble. Can you believe it has been a whole year?  That’s like seven million in pancake years for sure.

We sure didn’t finish on time.  We have seven more states to go still…including this Nevada place.  We have seven more rescues to go.

How I wish that there were more
Than the twenty-four hours in the day
’cause even if there were forty more
I wouldn’t sleep a minute away

But as we are nearing the end of this trip, we realize that the gamble we made was worth it.  We may have lost a little or a lot of money.  Probably a lot.

Oh, there’s black jack and poker and the roulette wheel
A fortune won and lost on ev’ry deal
All you need’s a strong heart and a nerve of steel
Viva Las Vegas, viva Las Vegas

We may be dragging because we are tired.  But the jackpot we have received in return has been worth the gamble, and the fans who have stuck by us are worth more than all the winnings in the world.  I am serious about that, and I am never serious.  Unless I am talking about the buffets I heard were here.  Pancakes, anyone? Yes.

When the persons decided to do this trip, they would have no idea the adventures we would have. They had no idea how emotional it would be to visit 48 rescues and see the animals in person that needed their stories told.  But we knew we should do it.  Sheriff Brickle and I agreed that someone took a gamble on us and saved our lives.  And other animals needed someone to take a chance for them too.

We thought about recapping all of the rescues and states we have visited so far on this trip today, since it has been a year. But then we thought maybe not.  That is something that we will do when we are done.  For now, we want to give Nevada the love it deserves.  It will deserve a lot more if I win the pancake jackpot.

It is true that I am more than a pancake loving fool, and it is true that this Nevada place is more than Las Vegas.

So get those stakes up higher

Since we really aren’t city folk, we will be heading out of this area today.  And also…it is dern hot!

I’m gonna keep on the run
I’m gonna have me some fun
If it costs me my very last dime
If I wind up broke up well
I’ll always remember that I had a swingin’ time
I’m gonna give it ev’rything I’ve got

Seems as though we picked a bad time to do what the persons call “dry camping” without electric and water.  But we have never been accused of having good timing for sure.  And I could take care of the dry part of camping if they needed me too. We may be in the desert, but I am watering the trees real good.

As we think back on this past year, we realize that it has been hard, not only for us, but for the families we left in that Florida place.  We realize that our friends miss us, and we realize that this trip can’t last forever.  We do not know what we are doing after this, but the persons have finalized our ending time.  We aim to finish at the end of July with Sonoma, California…that place we left over five years ago now to take a chance on a business that didn’t work out and ultimately led us back to that Florida place. But every path has led us to where we are now, and we wouldn’t change anything about it.  That is why we won’t stress now about where we may end up after we complete 48 states and 48 rescues.  Because our path may lead us somewhere worth taking a gamble on again.  Maybe California.  Maybe that Florida place again.  We don’t know.  But we do know this.  Happiness is never guaranteed.  We will never make all the right decisions.  But if you take a gamble to help someone or something, it will be worth it…even if you lose.  And for us, this trip has been worth it.  But we still have some playing to do.  Are you ready to finish these 7 states with us?  Let’s do this!
