One Piece At A Time

This is Fruitycake The Raccoon. It’s been a minute since I used my full name.

But I felt it was appropriate today. Sometimes you have to sound like business.

And even if someone doesn’t understand why a dog would have THE Raccoon in his name, I will tell you this. It makes much more sense than what happened yesterday.

The persons were recovering from our adventure or misadventures on Sunday.

But we received a call from our language teacher that was urgent.

You see, sometimes we have to have our language teacher help us with things. And getting our electric bicycle is one of them. Because they have been scheduled to deliver our bike to the parking lot in town because they can’t get up the mountain, we had to make sure we could communicate and not make any mistakes.

So when the persons were told by our teacher that finally, finally, the delivery person was in the parking lot, Boy Person ran down the path with the speed of sound.

This was in fact the fourth or fifth or sixth day the persons have waited in the parking lot for weeks, only to be told that it would come another day. Or be told many other things not true. And Boy Person was not about to miss the opportunity to get our bike.

He got down to the parking lot only to see no delivery person. In amongst all the tourists and cars, he weeded thru the street and no delivery person. Just as he was about to come back up the path, the worker persons at the parking lot that take the tourists money to park their many cars asked Boy Person if “this” was his. They pulled out a small box.

A small box? Boy Person looked at it in horror. How was a bike supposed to be in there? What had he ordered?

The parking lot persons were wondering too. They said they had made bets with each other on what was in the box and that a lot was riding on this…yes, I said riding in this. Since they of course were speaking Italian, Boy Person thought he had misunderstood. But they asked him to open it right there. And he did.

What was inside? Well, two parts for a bike. Two pedals for a bike. No bike to put them on. Everyone laughed, because yes, it was ridiculous. But no more ridiculous than what Boy Person did next.

Girl Person was wondering why it was taking him so long, so she went down the path only to see Boy Person coming up with the small box. He told her their electric bike was awesome! She asked him where it was. He said don’t be ridiculous! Get on! Get on the bike! He pulled out the pedals. And he rode off on the imaginary bike.

One piece at a time. Maybe that’s how life works when you’re trying to put yourself back together. That’s how we feel here most days. Ok. All the days. Nothing is happening fast, but to last. And although things take more time, in the long run, it will be for a reason.

Now the bike? We don’t know. Time to see what happens today. Will we ride off into the sunset or have to put handlebars on Boy Person?
