What A Bag Of Beans Means

This is Fruitycake. There are two days a week that are pretty much guaranteed. Girl Person goes to get my bread and groceries. She goes two days a week because she can only carry so much. She likes to go because she says we should always, always be thankful we are fortunate enough to have food.

You can help us get groceries today here

This week got a little more complicated with flooding and more work.

But again, we are fortunate and we are grateful every day to have these challenges.

We want to be here and we were meant to be here.

You can take my wisdom or not. That’s what Brickle used to tell me.

He said sometimes wisdom is valued as much as a bag of beans to some people. Around here though, a bag of beans means many things.

Help us continue here

A bag of dried beans have been a learning experience all in themselves.

When you have to carry everything up the mountain, you look at each thing you have to carry.

What kind of packaging does it come in? It matters because not only it’s better to have less packaging for the earth, but we don’t want to carry stuff back down to the trash. No one is coming up here for that.

So we started taking a look at all food, even beans. My persons like hummus and they are vegan so they eat a lot of that for protein.

But the package it comes in is wasteful. They also use beans to make ragù.

And they use beans to make with my scrambled eggs.

And they use beans for soups.

One bag of beans means all of that. One package or can of beans is one of that. You do the math.

It takes more effort to not be wasteful. It takes more effort to go an extra step and think of how we can do better. But we all can.

A bag of beans means less waste and more respect for ones who don’t have what we do. What is your bag of beans and how can you do better?
