Update From Girl Person
This is Girl Person. Hopefully, you’ve been able to watch the video that we shared last week about our plans to sell the rustico in Italy.
Many of you may know that this was not an easy decision, but when I became ill a few months ago, the decision made itself.
Circumstances in life change. And for the first time in our lives, we have realized that physically we can’t do it all. Not if we want to get back to doing more for animal rescue, which is why we started this journey in the first place.

When I was in the States for surgery, recovery was long. I had more time to think and to be removed from this difficult situation in Italy. What started out as living a dream here ended up becoming detrimental to our survival. Some things we should have known. Some things we should have better prepared for. Other things could only be understood by living through them. And yes, some things were mistakes. I’ve read the comments. I don’t disagree but they still hurt.
But those mistakes also led me to a new idea, one that only became clear when I visited the animal shelter Brickle and Digby came from. I don’t believe that was by chance.

The only reason I’m not sharing the full details of this new rescue project is because it is both technical and innovative. If I share everything now, someone else could take the idea and run with it. While the end goal is still to save lives, we have also learned that if we want to continue helping animals long-term, we must find ways to be more financially sustainable. This project is part of that future.
I ask you to bear with me and trust me.
We are not stopping the work we do now for animals while we develop this. There have been many things in my life that I have doubted. But the blog and 2 Traveling Dogs were never one of them. Even when it was hard, I never doubted that it was what we were meant to do. This new project feels even stronger. I promise you that. And I promise the animals.

The last few days, I’ve cried a lot. Not because of the heat. Not because of my recovery. Not even because I’m tired. I’ve cried because of some really terrible comments regarding the sale of the rustico and the decisions we have had to make.
I will always believe that people are kind at heart. Yet when I read some of those comments, it is a huge disappointment. It is hard not to take them to heart. But I’m trying.
Because I’m one girl on a mission.
A mission to sell this rustico as quickly as possible so we can start again. There are too many details about real estate in Italy, agents and the ins and outs. I see those comments too, and believe me, if I thought someone could sell this faster than me, I would. But we have had some scams aimed at us and we have to focus. I don’t have time to explain it all now. I just have to sell this. And I will!! It must be before winter.
Healthy. Safe. Stronger. Wiser. And able to use everything this place taught us to help even more animals in the future. That’s my goal.
Thank you for your love. Your support. Your kindness. Your graciousness. You have amazed me beyond words. I wake up every day overwhelmed, scared, exhausted, and uncertain of what comes next. But I also wake up knowing that so many of you believe in us.
More than anything, I want to go home and build this project in honor of Brickle, Digby, Fruitycake, and all of your rescues.
I won’t let you down.

P.S. Right now, we need help.
Recovery from surgery, maintaining daily life at the rustico, caring for the animals who depend on us, and preparing for what comes next have stretched us beyond what we can manage alone. If our work has ever inspired you, helped you, made you smile, or made a difference for an animal you love, please consider helping today.
Even a small donation makes a real difference. It helps provide necessities, supports my recovery, and allows us to continue helping animals while we work toward this next chapter.
