My Soul Dog Is Buried Here. How Can I Leave?

This is Girl Person. Many of you have watched the video we posted on Thursday regarding selling the rustico at Under The Crow.

Watch Here

It was a very difficult decision that we made to sell this wonderfully unique place. It was a decision we contemplated before I got sick because of the physical hardships. But after I got sick, and I had to leave for surgery, Boy Person realized that he also could no longer continue here. Due to my physical limitations, going up and down a mountain carrying supplies would not be possible. And he could not do everything alone. As well, our original idea and plan here of opening a wildlife sanctuary was no longer a possibility. And our purpose to help animals could not be carried out in all of these conditions. It was either we die up here or have an accident, or we go and try to start again. We knew there was a choice between saving a house or saving animals, Fruitycake, and ourselves. We chose the latter.

But one aspect, actually the first one I thought about when contemplating this decision, was whether we could leave. After all, Brickle had got us here.

Brickle is buried here on the side of the mountain on a remote terrace. How could we leave his body?

I know he is not “here.” He is everywhere. I know this because we had to leave Digby’s burial site at a farm. And I know he’s still with us.

But how could I discount that we would be saying goodbye to his resting place? I’m not going to lie. I hate it. Because I somehow have somewhere to go to talk to him. Just knowing his body is there.

Although I know he is not that sick and aged individual in the last days of his life. He was so much more than that. And he is more than that. Right now!

I could choose to die and be buried here with him. Or I could choose to use his legacy to save myself and more animals. I had to choose the latter as well in this case.

Now, I know it is absolutely not fun to leave his body here. But I do know this. This land is protected. No one can build anything else in this official natural park. It is not allowed. Also, the person who purchases this will have to respect nature, wildlife, and his place. It will be required. And the fact is, we will not be here on this earth one day. I can’t foresee the future. But I can try to do all I can to make sure he is respected.

The best way I can honor Brickle, and Digby too, is to carry on with their life’s work of making rescues the breed of choice and this new project for animals we so want to start as soon as we sell!! We hope we sell in the next two months. If you are that person, let us know. If you know of a person or organization that may be interested, let them know.

It also does not go unsaid this is Be Like Brickle Month. He passed away July 29, 2024. Two weeks after getting us here. He got us to a place we learned so much from. A place that taught us lessons to carry with us on to our purpose. A place that deserves to be respected. Just like him. And until the day I die, I will work my hardest to do that. Thank you all for loving him and our family for fifteen years, and let’s get on with the show!

If you’d like to honor Brickle, we will be publishing a legacy page on July 29th with your rescues in his honor and a way to celebrate the 2 Traveling Dogs family he started! With any amount, you can add your rescue here. https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/3552FFMFWKTQ4

Your support helps us in this difficult phase that will make the biggest rescue project we have ever done possible and also help with our necessities to keep going in this transition.

I love you all.

Rachael
