Everyone Needs Someone Like Her

This is Fruitycake. I’m going to get right to the point this morning, because my breakfast is late, and no one needs that. But there is something or someone you do need.

A few days ago, my persons found out that someone very special to our family and our big 2 Traveling Dogs family passed away. I like that term pass away when persons use it. Because I picture someone being happy and peaceful and free.

Although dogs know what happens when we leave the earth, we aren’t allowed to say. That is part of your journey.

But even though dogs know everything there is to know, we still miss you when you pass away. And although I never met Nadene in North Carolina, Brickle and Digby did. And they told me all about her and their visit.

When my family was in an RV and were in that North Carolina place, they got a message from Nadene that it would mean everything to her if they came to see her. They looked at the map and it was an hour drive away with a temperamental jeep.

In fact, the RV was no better and after it wouldn’t start most days, Girl Person had loudly declared she was done with that way of life. She was frustrated and crying and thought of Nadene’s message.

She figured she might as well try to brighten someone’s day when her life seemed dark. So off they went, her and Brickle and Digby while Boy Person tried to fix the RV.

When they got to Nadene’s house, she welcomed them with open arms and her foster dog Lady did too. Brickle and Digby loved visiting people and being snoops in other houses. One of Brickle’s favorite things to do was to look in every room of a house, every table, inspect the Knick knacks and check it out like a museum.

Nadene let him and you know what else? She let Digby howl away outside, as loud as he wanted. What was he howling? Because she had got them presents. And he couldn’t wait to open them.

Everyone needs someone like her, they would say. Someone to make you feel like you matter and that you are loved. Someone who makes you feel like you are more than what material things you don’t have. Someone who tells you about their struggles and how they can still help others, like the many foster dogs she had.

Nadene was our friend with a longing to see her beloved dog Daisy who had passed away many many years ago.

She loved food and the western states of the USA.

She loved pretty things and she loved us. She was a good friend with a personality that made you wonder what she would say next! Everyone needs someone like her.

We all have things going on in our lives. Well, you persons do. But there is nothing more important today, this day, to encourage someone who needs in it. Let’s remember Nadene today with an act of kindness that lets someone know they matter and to keep going.

When it comes down to it, each other is all we have.

Our Happy Rescue Story Of The Day

This is a sweet but sad rescue story. This past weekend, one of our longtime friends and supporters, Nadene,  passed away. A few years ago, we had a chance to visit her at her home in NC and she was  delighted to meet Brickle and Digby.

Nadene’s love of her life was a rescue dog named Daisy. Daisy came from a shelter and the second Nadene and her locked eyes, they knew they were just perfect for one another. Daisy was Nadene’s steady companion and loved lounging with her, running in her backyard, and going to eat at restaurants! Nadene made flower wreaths for Daisy and Daisy wore them proudly! She was the perfect friend and companion for Nadene.

Once Daisy passed, Nadene began to foster dogs from a local shelter and really enjoyed doing that. We remember Nadene and her Daisy with love.
