Off The Beaten Path

This is Fruitycake. If I would have known that a rescue dog needs to also rescue others, I’m sure that I would have read that job description a bit closer.

But since I accepted the assignment like Brickle and Digby before me, well, I will do my best. And in the last two days alone, I have rescued two individuals. The first one was a sea mouse named Minnie.

And the second? My own Girl Person. I thought I already rescued her quite a few times. But yesterday, I had to rescue her off of the beaten path.

It’s been raining cats and dogs and sea mice. We spent hours and hours trying to sweep out water coming into the house.

We patch one hole and another one appears. If this keeps up, I’m quite sure we will need a boat in here. Many have suggested we get life preservers up here and I’m not sure that I disagree.

But first things first. And the first thing is making sure that Girl Person keeps walking on the path and not off of it. With all the rain and mud, yesterday was quite treacherous. Trees were falling. Birds were flying away from the commotion of all the trees falling.

And Girl Person decided to join those trees. In one motion, she managed to slip off the highest part of the path. And after she stopped crying from the pain of her knee, she asked me to help her up. Rescue dog to the rescue again. We worked as a team to get up. And she was ok. Well, a little less than ok. But kind of ok.

I was happy to help. After all, she needed to be ok to make my breakfast. But truth be told, and I always tell the truth, we are a team. One of us may need rescuing one day and we always step up. Or off the path.

It’s been hard to keep his persons up lately in all the ways. And they say that they will only be able to do this project if there is divine help. That there is no way else to do it. It won’t be possible.

So as we keep to the way ahead and hope it’s better soon, we invite you to keep to your path today. If you fall, ask for help. And if you’re the one on dry land, help the ones who you can help.

We all have a different purpose. And all the purposes can only work together if we help each other.

Our happy rescue story of the day!!

“In January of 2013, I had decided to surf rescues on line,  in search of adding a 3rd dog to my family. One rescue “Burke County Friends For Animals” located in North Carolina, caught my eye. They had a YouTube channel where you could view some of their adoptable pets playing & interacting with them.  I was drawn to watching this one puppy over & over again, as I thought it would be nice to find a smaller dog this time that needed a home. After a few conversations with the foster mom, she told me the story of people that would just breed to sell puppys for Christmas. The ones they couldn’t “get rid of,” they would turn over to animal control to euthanize. How SAD 🥲 She was fostering 2 pups who she called Sugar & Spice!  After a lot of thought, and a lot of watching them on line, I knew I was already in love.  When the rescue had a few adopters in the Northeast, they arranged a van to transport them. I talked my best friend into riding 4 hours with me to Vermont on February 2, 2013 , in very bad weather, I might add, to go & get her! Since she was a southern girl, I thought her name was perfect “SUGAR”

At about 2 1/2 months old, she road all the way back home & became a New York girl! My gorgeous Sugar will be turning 13 later this month ❤️” -Fran
